Booking hair and makeup late.

Andrea, on March 25, 2019 at 04:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13

So I have had a really stressful few months and a lot of my wedding planning has had to go on the back burner. It is now spring break and I am trying to get back into the flow. I have realized that I don't have any hair and makeup professionals booked, and a few of the people I've looked at want bookings 4-8 months in advance. I am less than 3 months away from the big day. Am I completely screwed? Should I bother asking those that suggests this timeline?

I thank the community for any advice they can give me!

If you're located in Vancouver, you can try AXART Makeup. Annie and her team are great and they did an amazing job for my wedding!

You'll be able to book someone, but it may be a bit harder to find. Do get a trial done though! Try going on a Facebook wedding group for your area, and some hair people can also do make up.

I have 2 make up artists and 1 hair stylist, working on 4 women in a 2.5 hour timeframe.

I was going to have an old friend do my hair, but I just realized if she doesn't answer my texts how could I depend on her to do my hair. So, I went to my daughter-in-laws Mom which I have used for most of my hair creations in the past. Lucky for me Susanne said she be honored to do my hair. I am meeting up with her June 10th, putting my natural hair color back in with highlights, then trail run with how my hair will look like at the Wedding. Susanne is coming to our Home at around 7ish to get my hair ready for the Big Event. Here is an image of how my hair will look. As for Makeup my bestfriend will be doing that, I explained how I would like that done she mentioned to me, " Your Beautiful without any makeup". That was nice of her to say.

Plain & simple is just the way I like thingsBooking hair and makeup late. 1

My wedding is at the end of May and I only just booked my hair and makeup in March! They do book up quickly so I would recommend trying to lock something down soon. It is especially good to do it in advance so that you can get a trial booked (which I highly recommend doing).

Ask them anyways, you can also check in with any beauty schools in your area, sometimes the students will do it for a cheaper price and they don't require advanced notice necessarily. You can also ask any guests who do makeup regularly to do your make up for you depending on what look you are going for. Good luck!

It’s still doable, it just might be more phone calls! I booked at about 4 months and got the last time available. But, my friend booked about 2 months ahead and just had to pay extra to have them come in early and do it. It was $30 extra per person.
Also, from my experience, most bridal parties are booking at salons where everyone can get their hair done at the same time. If you have the time, I think you’ll be able to get time slots back to back easier than all together.

Definitely still ask! My hairstylist canceled on me a couple weeks ago so I frantically had to find someone else and I did! I found someone on less than 3 months so I think you'll be okay. We also found a MUA too but decided to just do our own.

    I would 100% still ask.

The timeline is a suggestion to you really. For them it's business - they won't decline business because you are out of the timeline unless they are fully booked.

That's the only issue you may run into is people being booked up - I would for sure still reach out to many people and ask if they have availability and book some trials.

Call and ask as many places as you can!!

Sometimes other brides cancel, things happen, etc. and a hair/MUA now has the day open. Even the ones that want 4-8 months notice wouldn't hurt to call - the worst that can happen is that they say no. Also, a deposit is your friend in this situation: let them know you are able to put a deposit down so they know you're securing a spot and likely won't cancel on them. Most places will probably ask for a deposit anyway.

Email and call as many as you can! I too would like to know I will be getting paid well in advance but if they don't have that day booked I'm sure they won't turn down making money!

I would email anyone you have info for with your information- date of event, how many girls, ask if available, what the deposit is, if a contract, includes a trials for you or not. This way you get to the point and they can say yes or no and you move on to another person.
