Are you taking pictures before or after your ceremony?

Lynnie, on February 11, 2019 at 14:28 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 32

When are you taking pictures with your wedding party and future spouse?? 📷

Are you doing a "first look" with your fiancé(e) so you can get those photos done before the ceremony? Or are you taking all of your pictures after the ceremony?

That's exactly what we did! I thought it was easier to just have both families stay after the ceremony and take those group pictures than to wrangle them all to show up early!

I can't wait to see the pics!! I loved doing a first look!! It was nice to have that emotional moment a little more privately, and get that first round of tears out! Smiley laugh Smiley heart

My photographer will be with us from the end of getting ready until 9ish when the party starts more. From then on we’ll encourage guests to take photos and post with our hashtag to be able go back and see them all. We want lots of candid shots of us and our guests, we’ll take some formal ones, but not too many, I dont look back on those as much. But I want some to decorate our home with ofcourse.

Both of us are too superstitious to do a first look, so we will be taking them after the ceremony.

Before! Hadn't really heard of the first look idea really until we found out our venue had to booked in that it was ceremony right to reception, unless we wanted to buy out the whole day vs half the day. So budget wise it was a no brainer, and then I started to look up first looks and fell in love with the idea!

FH and I are pretty shy, so I love that we can have a quiet intimate moment with just us before the ceremony, that will be captured. I get tears just thinking about it Smiley laugh

Then we will do all the bridal party photos and pictures with some parents (I think). Want to do as few photos during cocktail hour as possible, as we are SO excited for our cocktail hour. Our photographer as assured us she can rush through the family portraits and get to the good stuff really quick.

The only issue coming up is trying to explain the first look concept to the traditionalist in our lives, I'm getting pretty exhausted having to justify and explain WHY its what we want.

I didn't want a first look photo session. I loved having him waiting to see me at the top of the aisle.

My photographer did take a few "getting ready" shots of me but we didn't want a ton of those either - we just had her come 15 minutes early for the "lacing of the dress" "putting on the jewelry" "looking in the mirror" type shots.

We did photos after the ceremony - just an hour, while the guests had canapes and cocktails, then we joined everyone for the luncheon.

Initially I was dead against before. However with our timeline it makes the most sense so we are doing a first look and picture before with immediate family and bridal party then we are doing after as well in the ceremony space.

Pictures were done before and after the wedding.

    Pre pictures:

    Each family with each Groom.

    After pictures:

Group pictures were arranged as my brother gathered everyone in the group to be ready as the photographer was ready to get the next group going. Family shots were the last to do due to the time frame and cocktail hour starting right after the photographs.

We're doing ours after the ceremony, which is only going to be 15 minutes or so lol. We have 2.5 hours to get them all done, but I'm fairly confident we can do it in 2 and then mingle with guests for the last part of cocktail hour!

We are doing a 1st look, then doing our pictures, then doing our ceremony! That way, our guests can head right to the reception after the ceremony. We did it this way, because we have been to weddings and dislike having to try and find something to fill a few hours between the ceremony and reception, especially when we're dressed up!

We are not doing a 1st look. The photographer will start with the Guys at a park weather permitting and then she'll come to get me with my Parents & my Girls. Our pictures together won't begin until I reach my FH at the end of the aisle. 39 days to go!!!

Before, with the exception of a group photo with our guests. With a 4:30 ceremony I don't want my guests waiting too long for dinner. We might steal a couple of minutes to do sunset shots before our photographer wraps up for the night though.

We're doing both. Because of the time of day the ceremony is at, we want to make sure all the family/party pictures are done in the daylight. Then we have both day and dusk photos of us to choose from.

Both! I want most done before the ceremony, but my photographer said we will be taking a few after as well, because she says that the couple always look more carefree in the photos taken afterwards.

We'll be doing photos after the ceremony. We've planned around 2.5 hrs between the ceremony and reception so we can get lots of photos done in that time 😊

For sure doing a first look and then all of the photo's possible!! After the ceremony we will probably take more with the sun setting but this also allows guests to grab a drink and get seated for us to enter the reception.

We'll be doing our pictures after the ceremony during cocktail hour. I'm a very traditional and sentimental person so I really like us seeing each other for the first time when I walk down the aisle. I also think it's a little more special for guests because that way they get to see in person your reactions to seeing each other for the first time.

Prior to the ceremony to avoid distracting (A.K.A. annoying) guests! But we will do family portraits after the ceremony during cocktail hour.

We did a first look, mainly for having a winter ceremony, so rather than risking no daylight for photos or a 5pm dinner time, we did the photos pre-ceremony.

I'm so glad we did. I can not WAIT to get my photos back... My husband told me he wouldn't cry, and I knew he'd get choked up... but he DROPPED when he saw me... FULL tears. I'm so so so excited to have those memories. He would have never reacted like that in front of 100 guests.

We're doing a first look. I just didn't want to subject our guests to having to wait a long time between our ceremony and reception (plus, I want our pictures to be right when we're done getting ready and looking our best!).
