Are you inviting your parents’ friends?

Sinéad, on November 4, 2019 at 09:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 31

Do your parents want to invite some of their friends? What do you think about the idea? Are you keeping your guest list intimate or are you extending the invitation to some of their friends too?

My parents are actually paying for my wedding, so they are inviting whoever they want lol. In my culture the big weddings are mostly for my parents and their friends. So I’ve got about 100 friends between myself and my FH, and the other 300 are relatives and our parents’ friends.

Our parents helped contribute so we did allow suggestions. We ended up inviting a friend of my mom. But, I’m also friends with my parents friends (I’ve known them since I was a baby so they are like family) so most of them were being invited anyway. My husband’s parents did not ask us to invite anyone.

We have to be a little lenient with parents' friends since they're helping with the costs. But we have limited seating so it's not too unreasonable.

Technically I guess. We have a bunch of people that are close family friends/ friends of our parents but they are close enough to be considered family, our officiant is my dad’s best friend since childhood.

This one I will have to technically say no. There are a three friends of parents on the list, but one is a special exception for my FMIL to bring a guest of her choosing, a friend of my FH that lived next door to him growing up (so feels more like an aunt), and one close friend of my mother, who is also a friend of mine too. We picked these exceptions with no pressure, so I feel it's not a parents' pressing for friends thing.

Nope, nope, nope, I feel like wedding are for people close to the bride and groom and that are special to them. Not exactly a thing when I have no idea who they are.

They're like my aunt and uncle so they're invited anyway, and another friend is a family friend so yes, and the other friend is my best friend's mom so yes. Otherwise she doesn't really have her own friends so we haven't exactly planned for others

We have a couple that ended up getting added. Our final numbers are where we expected anyway since we had a high number of no's but it worked out!

Not planning too. We have had a request, but we have to see closer to the date if there is a gap in our guest list.

No. There wasn't any request from their end as being considerate to my budget and the family only mom side mostly.

We invited a lot of my parents friends and still kept the guest count under 85. We wanted them there, as many of them watched me grow up and were close friends of our family.

We did, but we gave them a cap on how many they could invite (10 max or 5 couples).

No, not really. We're inviting my mother-in-law's best friend but she is practically family.

None of my parent's friends will be there because they're our old teachers from high school haha

We did not. Again we wanted to keep it just family. There are some of our parents friends who were considered, but in the end they didn't get invited

No, but a few of my friends parents might be invited. I know them better than my parents friends.

Yes! We are inviting my mom's friends since I don't have any extended family. So her friends are there as her "family" so that she has a nice table to sit at! Plus even though I don't know them super personally, I've met all of them a few times, they are influential in her life, and were very generous in giving at our engagement party!

My parents asked me permission to invite their best friends, whom I had already invited since I consider them family (I've known them since I was 9 or 10 hahaha).
My hubby was hesitant to do the same, as his parents' friends were complete strangers to us. After much debate, he extended the invitation to them, which they declined (queue the big eye roll here!).

We're inviting only certain friends of our parents, most of which FH and I wanted to invite anyway since they're more like friends of the entire family. We're keeping it under 60 still though

We're inviting some of FH's parents' friends, but they were either former neighbours or had kids around FH's age so he grew up with them.

Yup! We gave both of our Mom's the initial allowance of inviting 3 couples each, and then after we got some RSVP's back we let them invite another 2 couples more each.

I think we gave my mom and FFIL 2 guests each and plus ones for each guest. FMIL will have a lot of family so doesn't need any friends. FFIL's family is in Germany and I want his table to have people he will feel comfortable with.
