Advice on picking dj

Tanya, on May 1, 2018 at 14:02 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Hey,

I have found that planning out the DJ experience has been very stressful. When they don't have packages set up, they want you to come sit down and talk to them about your "vision". I have told them what I have wanted and some of them still want to go over the day. I understand the purpose of this is to ensure that everything works, but really, you wouldn't visit 50 different venues, so why wouldn't the same apply to DJs? I want a base price up front, especially when I detail what I am looking for. Any advice on how to shorten the list even more? Maybe just keep the ones that have reviews?

The venue that we chose already had a DJ company they worked with, so it was included in the package, which was a relief. I would maybe check with the venue you chose, if they have any suggestions. I also would just want a base price, and not sit down to create a "vision".

Look up on the internet and see of the DJs have a website to get ideas on their packages. This should help to simplify matters than more questions.

I had found over half that requested information to fill out to get you quotes by email. Quarter of them had actual websites providing packages and pricing.

I had spoken over the phone with my DJ and never met in person until payment was needed along with the information of the day. All paper work wqs taken care over email.

I agree with Emily that you should consult your venue to see if they have a list of preferred vendors. We ended up going with ours because the plug-in fee was high and our DJ package comes with up lighting, spot lights, and table lights.

I would check with your venue. Our venue had a list of recommended vendors, so we chose our DJ from there. I know what you mean though. DJs proved to be the thirstiest vendors that we had to deal with. We really like the one we chose, DJ Lynz. I saw that you're in Acton, and we're in Vaughan so I would look to see if she'll travel out there. She was really accommodating and actually refered us to her cheaper package! Smiley smile

I agree with you. I found that DJs seem to be more complex when planning. I've talked to a few and told them what I want and they don't give me a quote or anything just want to meet. I explained I can't because I live in BC and that's it. Only one has actually given a quote, he actually lowered his price to help us out and since he was recommended by the venue. Only trouble now is that it's so expensive still..we are considering other options now, maybe a band, maybe DIY DJ lol

Sometimes venues have a dj they prefer working with or can recommend someone. The first one we contacted and have an appointment to meet with is recommended by the venue. Basically look on their website for prices and packages. If they dont have any the email and say I want this and that how much. You don't want to waste time It's always a good idea to meet your DJ before hiring them. It's important to get a postive vibe from him.

I went based on a recommendation (from 2 different people). Before booking him, I also checked out dj's in the area and their facebook reviews.
I found reading the reviews helpful.

I found mine through WeddingWire. The prices were listed on the website, we had a quick conversation on the phone and I decided to go with him. The company had great reviews, and he seemed really nice. They had a package we wanted (ceremony, reception and photo booth). It was quick and painless haha. We will nail out details later. I’m not about to go meeting with DJs on top of everything else haha. Prices should be laid out before you even talk with them in my opinion
