I from a Ghanaian Canadian Muslim Background. Therefore, i want my wedding to reflect my hertiage. In the Ghanaian muslim community. We usually spend two to 5 days. Depending on the family. For example. I want to celebrate my marriage for 4days. Which is friday,saturday,sunday and monday. Friday: will be henna party plus the women gathering. This the day the bride and females in the family will gather to pray jummah, advice or a sermon from a females who are married or scholar. In the evening the bride will apply henna with her female friends and female relatives. For saturday: is the party or the bridal party. This where the bride changes her dresses. Dances and play and celebrates with her. For sunday: the islamic wedding and walima. This is the official day where the bride and groom exchanges in the islamic format. The walima is when the brides recites the surah fatiha in addition to that she will recite surah baqarah. After there is a reception where the bride and groom are adviced by elders and Islamic scholars. And of course there is food,dessert and drinks. For monday: the celebration where the bride steps into her new home which called budan kai. Family also gather to celebrate the brides entrance to her new home and she gets more advice from family that the final.
