Wyr: Green Hair or no hair?

Hi everyone, I tried my hair badly about a year ago. Despite doing all the right things my hair is still damaged. Now my wedding is a month away and I have to decide if I am going to sport this ashy green hair or I will I cut it off as it won’t hold dye anymore. If I cut it, it would be rather short, about war length as you can see from the picture.

What would you rather do and why?Wyr: Green Hair or no hair? 1

Wow. I truly felt sorry for your situation and was going to try my best to help you. I did read the thread, and I wasn't talking about ordering products. I was also simply trying to encourage you. Nonetheless, all the best to you.

Yeah you’ve missed the point. This has nothing to do with not being able to order products. Please don’t reply if you can’t be bothered to read the thread

    Hi Amanda,

Hmm, something just came to mind, is the person doing your hair appointment a hairstylist? They should be able to order what you need. Ask them to order it, or attempt to order it on your own and just hope and pray it comes in time. If it doesn't come in time, just return it (assuming that when you say you're leaving, you will be back). Also, if what you're looking to order is extensions, oftentimes hairstylists have extra extensions they don't need left over, they probably can dye it and use it in your hair.

You mentioned something about leaving for your wedding? Well where ever you go must have hairstylists as well, contact someone there and ask if they can order what you need for when you get there. Ask them if they can do your hair, and just trust that it will work out fine even though you didn't get to do a trial hairstyle first.

If none of those options work for you, then just style your hair as is and believe that you are beautiful no matter what colour your hair is, because you are! One day you can look back on this story and smile because for whatever reason, weddings never go perfectly, but with a little adjusting of our perspective, we can see that everything is just the way it's supposed to be.

I hope I understood your situation correctly. Nonetheless, I will pray that everything works out great for you. I know it will!

I tried to not dye it again until 6 weeks out., and then it didn’t hold at all. I tried again and it fell out. Now I only have 4 weeks left until I leave. 😬

It does really suck. I tried to wait it out too long, ended up moving 800 km away from my venue and family and have now run out of time to do anything proper 😬 now I can’t find any resources near by in time.

That really sucks. I would get a trim and wear it proud the way you want it and never mind what others think.

It is green, it matches my jacket on the outer layer ears down. And I can’t just cancel the green because the hair won’t hold the colour anymore. this picture is two washes with red enhancing shampoo and conditioner after being permanently dyed a shade in the 1.5-2 range. Ordering things online isn’t even an option. Amazon prime generally takes 2+ weeks where I live, I might not receive it in time for the hair appointment. The nearest wig store/extension store is a 12 hour round trip driving and I’ve run out of time.

I mean it's not green, has a tint of green, been there done that. You can wash your hair with red shampoo, think Christmas, Red cancels green, easter purple cancels yellow.

Also, amazon has decent extensions for a low cost to make your hair appear thicker without busting the bank. With weight loss and being pregnant I am losing so much hair, I refuse to pay a lot of money for extensions and found some decent ones for $20.

Firstly my hair is barely shoulder length and all these styles would require me to purchase hair. I have very thin hair with a giant brain surgery scar across the top and I really do not want to draw attention to that. I also have 3 small children that will definitely be climbing on me all day so anything that transfers isn’t going to fly. Also my dress is too bare to have my hair up, and buying a new dress isn’t an option. I appreciate you saying you wouldn’t choose either option, but it doesn’t really help me at all. These are the two options, cutting it or wearing it green. I literally have no hair ear to ear over the top of my head like a headband, a permanent thick scar from multiple surgeries where my scalp was pulled off my skull to put the scar in my hair rather than on my forehead. I really am not comfortable pulling my hair back for many reasons. The only way I’m comfortable wearing it, is down. As soon as I pull my hair back at all only the scar is noticeable. There is no hiding it with my hair up.Wyr: Green Hair or no hair? 2

Personally, if I did not have the time or resources for much of the options you may have (which I totally get, I am also a bride on a budget and the beauty alone leading up to the wedding is expensive); I would put it in a updo. There is not much ground to work with and the two cheapest options is have your hair styled up to hide the green that you do not like or to cut it. Which I don't think you should, hair is special to a lot of people so I understand not willing to cut it.

There are some really nice up do's and you can use the color hair spray to keep it in place. I think for the sake of it being your wedding and you want a certain look, having a weird residue on your hair for a day (that you don't even touch!) is a better solution than cutting it.

Here is some options for a loose updo where it has the same affect as being down, just some of your hair down

I don’t have the time or resources to have a trial. I can get my hair done on April 28th and it will be the only appointment I have prior. I was just curious what other people would do in this situation and why. I think I’d rather have green hair than no hair in this situation, even if my mother in law has already expressed criticism. I don’t really want to have life long pictures of either. I am a brain cancer survivor and cutting my hair short is a traumatic memory of shaving it. Despite my preferences I’m having a hard time coping with everyone telling me I look really ugly.

If cutting or nothing are really the only options (no colour deposit, semi permanent dye, up-do etc) then I would do a trial run with the wedding colours, venue and dress in style. If I didn’t like it, I would cut it.
It depends on what look you would be happiest with.

Also the colouring hairspray leaves too much residue behind to leave my hair down to use it. If it were an updo that might work but I don’t like updos. Would you postpone to fix your hair?

My hair will not hold even the colour depositing conditioner anymore. I have been using redken red, and this is only two washes after dying. I will not be able to afford hair extensions. I live in a small town and would have to make a whole trip to get them. I was not planning on doing an updo I was planning on wearing my hair down. I have an extreme plunging neck line and low back dress so having my hair up is really not ideal, or short. Too much skin exposed. I’ve seen two hair teachers even, and my options are cut it or stay green. I’m just curious what other people would do and why at this stage.

Are you able to get extensions if you cut your hair short? Or are you doing an updo?

I think these are the best solutions at the moment:

start using a colour depositing shampoo and conditioner (can get from both Chatters and Sephora), this way it starts to take at least some colour.

also, there is coloring hair spray; These spray colour onto the hair as well as hold your hair in place.
