Writing on invitations

Sarah, on January 13, 2020 at 21:38 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12
Years ago when I’d go to weddings with my mom the invitations always spelled out the time and date. Nowadays with friends I’ve noticed it differs.
What is the norm? What are you guys doing? Are you writing time and date normally ie. 4:00pm or spelling it out, four o’clock in the afternoon?

Hi !! Congrats on your engagement!
I'm getting married June 20 2020 and we actually had our invites with the time 4:30pm and 5:00 for cocktails... it a depends on what you feel. I have been to multiple wedding and they all were mixed , some spelt out and some not. You go with how you feel the invite looks to you. Formal or semi formal. Good luck.

Thanks for the input everyone! Guess we’ll do write the time and date normally and not spell them out. Sounds weird but I honestly just findit odd spelling out the year 2020 haha. Our wedding is somewhat formal but not as much as it could be. It’s also just close family and friends anyway

You can do it either way, spelling it out sets a more formal tone so if your wedding is on the formal side, I'd write it that way.

For mine, I spelled out the time but wrote the date in numbers lol (i.e. October 19th, 2019 as opposed to October the Nineteenth Two-thousand and Nineteen). I could've easily wrote the time normally to, but it doesn't matter a whole lot.

I think it depends on what kind of wedding your having if its formal I would go with spelling it out

Its true everyone is different when it comes to invitation wording of the date and time. You choose what's best for you in the sense of writing or number.

I did put it in writing itself to be formal as I have seen some with numbers.

We put October 5th 2019, and then 5:30 P.M. - it just fit better and it was how the layout of the invitation on VistaPrint was set.

Yeah I think writing it all out fully is more formal so go with whatever feels right for your wedding! Ours is more casual and neither of us really have strong feelings about either style so we just have it written out normally.

I think it’s totally based on your preference. I chose to write it out, but my mother hated that I had everything in caps. She thought I was screaming at guests LOL. It’s all about how it makes you feel!

I like the look of the date written out, but my fiance hates it. He hates it enough that I'll let him win this one!
Ultimately it's your choice, and your style. If you're designing invites on a site like Vistaprint you can try out the designs with short or long dates and see which looks best to you.

We wrote it out on ours. I think it just depends on which style you like. There's definitely no wrong or right way to do it.
