Worse Wedding Luck Ever! 😭

Natasha, on June 9, 2020 at 17:51 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13
Hey Brides and Grooms!
On top of Covid 19 ruining our July 2020 wedding, we postponed with our venue for July 2021. Trying to stay positive and continue planning etc. We just found out today that our venue is actually being torn down in March 2021. The official release was today by the town.

Like?!?! 😭😭😭😭 Waiting to hear from the venue on what will happen. But I’m feeling super defeated. Everything was done for 2020, but due to the postponement we lost our DJ and photographer. Now we’re definitely back to square one and I’m feeling hopeless that the day will ever happen 😢
I just want to marry my best friend, and everything is going soooo wrong. Any advice would be awesome. It’s hard for anyone else to understand so figured I would come here

Unfortunate events one after another and really sorry to hear it going down this way.

Positive prevails negative energy and hopefully you will find a way to make your day happen still and get vendors in time to come out. Your recent vendors have worked out to give the money back due to not servicing your wedding? It would be a loss to feel on top of all this happening.

Lets hope by the impact of what has taken place, you will have your vendor team all together once again and a venue that isn't deciding to upgrade or do the same as your current. The best of luck and hope all works out really well to turn things around.

Hey !! No I totally understand what your saying. Unfortunately it was really based on my sister which is also my MOH living in Alberta and not being able to be here. We are very close.

But I just heard word from the venue and they are rebuilding a new venue and my date is good Smiley smile

Oh I'm so sorry about this. Covid has thrown such a HUGE wrench into everyone's wedding plans this year. If I would give you my 100% honest advice, I would say save yourself the heartache and just get married. That has been our choice all along and we are so happy we're going to go through with it, even if just 10 people are there to witness. We want to start our lives together and there is no way I'm putting myself through another year of waiting. So I'd lovingly suggest the same to anyone else! Smiley heart A wedding is whatever you make it, and it can be as special as you want it to be, even if it isn't a huge party.

Oh no! That is a horrible situation, I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. This would be frustrating during a normal year let alone during all the corona BS.

I'm confused about why the venue would move the date and then tear down though. Could they be rebuilding on the same site? I would definitely get in touch and see what's going on and if they aren't going to be there for you can they help find another venue (do they have partnerships, or suggestions, any inside connection that could help?). Afew years ago a local barn venue burned down and was rebuilt better than before, so maybe there is hope!

Also after re-reading your post I feel compelled to say this. A big elaborate wedding is by no means necessary. If you really just want to marry the love of your life ASAP, then get married! This summer! Next week! Put on your dress, call up your officiant, have a stunning intimate ceremony (there's no shortage of first hand accounts/inspiration on WW), and celebrate with your loved ones.

If that's not your thing I totally get it--I've also decided against a ceremony this summer as I'm okay with waiting for the "big" day. But if you're truly just frustrated with the planning process and just want to marry your person, this is a great option.

Ugh what a punch to the gut!! I'm so so sorry this has happened. I can't imagine going through the heartbreak of one postponement only to have plan B fall through. Sending you lots of love!

That said, your day WILL happen. And if you were planning on waiting until next year anyway you still have a ton of time to act and achieve your dream wedding. As Hank mentioned, your first/immediate priority is to recoup as much money as possible from the venue. Once that's taken care of, I would recommend sitting down with your fiance and revisiting your vision for the day. One advantage of a terrible setback like this (ie being back at "square one") is that you get to reconsider your previous decisions/re-prioritize. I'll give a personal anecdote to illustrate. My FH and I postponed our August 2020 wedding until August 2021, and our photographer unfortunately couldn't make the new date work. We used this as an opportunity. We chatted and realized that, for us personally and in hindsight, entertainment was more of a priority than photography. So we booked a new but still awesome photographer with a much cheaper package and reallocated some of that money to hire a band for our reception. Never would have been possible if Covid hadn't thrown a wrench in our plans.

I guess my point is that you'll be absolutely fine as long as you act quickly and thoughtfully (but by all means, allow yourself time to be upset!!). And you may even refine things a little more along the way. As for practical advice, I would recommend keeping your 2021 date (if possible) so you can keep some of your existing vendors on board. From there, find a new venue that suits your vision--who knows, you could end up finding something you're equally if not more excited about--and then fill in the gaps vendor-wise. The situation sucks but time is still on your side (As is an extra year's worth of savings!). Good luck!!

Oh no .. i'm so sorry to hear that!

Why is the venue being torn down? Hopefully you are receiving any deposits you put down.

Hank is totally right about looking at the up side of things ... you have another year to save and you already know what you want for your wedding so some of the aches of decision making are lessened.

I totally understand how you feel, I just want to marry my best friend too and all this uncertainty is definitely stressful.

Perhaps now, you'll choose a new venue with a new date and maybe your DJ and photographer will be available at that point?

That sucks that everything seems to fall out of place with your plans. Sorry to hear that.

In regards to your venue, why are they being torn? Is the owner rebuilding or did they sell the property for another development? I would get in touch with your venue contact right away and try to get your money back ASAP. If they file for bankruptcy or the corporation dissolves, it'll be an especially harder fight.

For your vendors, I hope you managed to get refunds back since they are unable to legally uphold their end of the bargain. If you can't get a refund from the photographer, get them to at least render services for you like an engagement shoot session.

The plus side is, you now have a full year to plan and account for any of the things you thought you couldn't do for your wedding had it taken place next month. And you get an extra year to save!
