Winter wedding vs destination wedding

Veronica, on July 9, 2019 at 20:24 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
My Fiance and I really do not want a summer wedding. Our weekends are far too busy and both families are cottage families and would rather keep our summer weekends free. Debating between the snow (feb) and destination wedding.

Anyone else in the predicament ?

Where are you doing your winter wedding?

We are getting married next April in Punta Cana! Even after comparing off-season and Friday weddings all over Ontario, we couldn't beat the price of a wedding away. For less cost, we are getting the wedding of our dreams and a week long vacation with friends and family most dear to us. It's a win win in our books!

We decided to go for the Feb wedding as air travel would be hard for some of our guests FMIL and FFIL plus some other guests that it was important for us to have them there. My MOH is considering a destination wedding so I can help her with that and have both 😄

Hi Veronica Smiley smile Have you and your FS decided on a winter wedding or a destination wedding? If you were to choose a destination wedding, where would you go?

This is what happened to us, I was totally for a destination wedding on the beach but a majority of my wedding party wouldn't be able to do it, including my brother and FH's sister. Since it was people that mattered most to us, we kept it local but had an October wedding since we didn't want something in the summer.

100% agree with Tori. I just met with my wedding planner yesterday and she said that more people are booking September/ October and even early November for weddings (They have no dates available for 2020 in those months already!) And many venues consider October/November to be off season so you do get some better pricing!

We were one meeting away from booking a destination wedding. But then family started saying that they couldn't afford the trip, they wouldn't be able to make it etc. If it was some extended family it would have been different, but it was close family and we couldn't see our day without them. So it really comes down to your family and who you want attending your wedding.

Keep in mind if you do a destination wedding, many people will still have a "party" here for all those that couldn't come to celebrate so that would be an additional cost as well.

I was in that situation - hence the October 5th wedding! It's past the last weekend for camping aaaaaand after harvest should be done for the farmers in my family.

I highly recommend considering October especially because some places consider it to be an "off-season" wedding which means big discounts!!

If you are still only wanting to choose between destination and February Winter Wedding - there are some things to consider.

    1. Not everybody can afford to not only pay for a trip but take time off of work as well or take their kids away from school (or maybe they are in school still)

    2. With that being said, it will be a more intimate wedding with less people there

    3. Winter can be unpredictable (could be -40 on your wedding day... we are in Canada)

    4. If there is a snow storm or ice storm then guests may not be able to drive where your wedding is if it is outside the city or if power is out.

Destination wedding is a good idea if you know you want just family and close friends to come to your choice of resort or villa in another country. Inquire about a group rate with the airline to get a better price than their regular.

Doing local in Ontario, keep it small and intimate so you can have family and close friends attend for a reception party if you wish to cut costs by eloping. Considering an actual wedding ceremony, look at venues to have both in 1 place or 2 separate for each event. Décor can depend on how you want to go about colours to the season.
