Winter Bouquets - Any dried flower experience?

MacKenzie, on February 10, 2019 at 14:43 Posted in DIY 0 6

Hi all, I am in the process of researching my flower options. As I am an outdoor winter bride I know my options are limited. I am not the biggest fan of fake flowers but live flowers will definitely not hold up in the high alpine in February. I am wondering if anyone has experience with dried flower bouquets? I am curious about their durability etc. Thanks in advance!

Did you have any luck with figuring out your flowers?

Just a thought... I got my flowers from Costco (3rd party through Valley Flowers)... they delivered 48 hours before the wedding, and keeping them chilled (just in the box near a door, or away from a heater) kept them to a perfect bloom the day of, and we were outdoors for photos and they held up great... Between the greenery, the thistles, berries and carnations, the roses lasted fine, and looked beautiful.

I loved them. They were smaller, which worked for me, because I didn't want big flowers for the winter wedding. Plus the thistles and berries in them really made them look like winter bouquets. They are photographed as a "garden collection" online with peaches and apricots, but I got them to do all the flowers in white, to make the thistles pop.

I got a bridal bouquet, 3 bridesmaid bouquets, 2 corsages, 11 boutonnieres and a bag of rose petals, taxes and delivery included for $425...

Super gorgeous!! I am still so in love with your colours Stephanie! I am just starting to play around with my bouquet, still early, but I’m going fake flowers all the way.

I’ve always considered myself a hippy and not for fake flowers and real was the only way to go. When I started budgeting and planning I quickly realized that the benefits in having fake, for me personally, outweighs the ones of having real ones.

The venue I picked supplies all the decor I could ask for, so I’m not really making anything but our bouquets and welcome table decorations (family photos and stuff)

I used dry flowers for my grandparents anniversary party, they’re beautiful, colours are a bit dull (not bad at a winter wedding) they are also brittle obviously so you gotta be a little more careful with them. But if you make a nice big bunch with variety you can probably get away with it even if you lose a little. Keep in mind there might be a little leaves that might fall on you too.

I dried my bouquet from my summer wedding. There are still petals that fall off even though it’s in its own vase and in a place where nothing can accidentally touch it. The colours aren’t as vibrant. The flowers are smaller now that they are dried and some of the flowers the petals fell off in the drying phase. I know the lily and the glad did. I can post a picture when I get home.

Beautiful Flowers Stephanie! The DIY doesn't bother me at all. We are having quite a casual wedding and i've read that silk flowers work really well in round shaped bouquets, less so in more organic drapey shaped bouquets. Background on my personal flower tastes- I like wildflower blooms from around my area, but these are of course unavailable in winter, and difficult to find as silks. However I was thinking mixing the silk flowers with some dried blooms of my preferred flowers. Very concerned about their durability though like you stated. Did you find your flowers online?

My only experience with dried flowers is that they are TERRIBLY fragile.... why are you again fake flowers? Is it the DIY side you dont like? I got my bouquet from etsy and they're silk flowers and honestly they are absolutely GORGEOUS!
