Will you film your wedding? (videography)

Tiffany, on November 8, 2016 at 11:24 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

Hello Brides-to-be! A question for all of you Smiley smile

Hiring a professional photographer is a must for my wedding. How about a videographer?

I didn't realize a photographer and videographer were not the same people (silly me).. and the cost to hire a videographer may cost the same as hiring a photographer (which I did not budget for).

Do you think it is necessary to have your wedding filmed? Do you think I'll regret it in the future? Some of my friends opted to have a relative film parts of their wedding... which I am considering. But the bottom line question is: Do you think it's necessary?

Thank you everyone for your help! Smiley heart

We decided to have a videographer after a lot of thinking it over if we really wanted it or not, as it is an additional expense. On the wedding day it will go fast and the videographer can capture those moments we may have missed, and remember all the moments we want treasured. If you have a friend or family member who knows how to video properly then that would help budget wise.Go with your gut feelings, this is what we did.

Try posting on college websites. You can get a film student to do it. They have fresh ideas and are a fraction of the cost! I'm not taking away from anyone with experience. But budget is a factor for some of us and it's the midway point. Suppose you could do the same with a photographer as well.

I am undecided on this one as well. I often go for the video only to find I watch it once and then it gets shelved but I always take out photo albums! It's interesting to hear that a lot of Brides regret not having one though.

Hi Tiffany!! Smiley heart Welcome to the community! I'm so happy to meet you! Smiley smile

I do think that keeping a video of your wedding makes it much more emotional and so much more fun to watch after! It's something you can keep and watch in a few years and really remember how it all felt.

I know that some photographers have packages for doing both photography and videogrpahy on your wedding day. You should look into those!

There are a few in our directory here:

Hi Tiffany, for me personally I think it is really a good investment to have both a videographer and a photograph to relive the moments and to have as a keepsake. From what I have learned is to book with a company that does both a you may save some money. Also let whomever you have meetings know what your budget is as this is very important! Smiley smile I think for so may feel it is necessary but it is really up to you and what your vision is.

I don't think it's necessary except for the first dances and the vows. I'm getting friends to do it, that way it's nowhere near the average cost!!

I've read the most common regret brides have is not having a videographer. To try and cut down cost (as it was WAY beyond our budget), I got some quotes for just the ceremony (as I feel this is the only part I really want filmed anyways). The videographer we found worked with us (and our budget) and suggested a 2 hour package (as it will make for a better “story” in the video to have a bit of footage of us leading up to the ceremony, and I agree!). And I made a few cuts to some other costs. It was pretty reasonable and I feel like I get the best of both now (we also have an outdoor ceremony and became obsessed with having some aerial footage of the venue... so I worked to make it fit in our budget)

For me personally I don't think it is necessary to have a videographer at my wedding! I think it comes down to your own personal preference. I think any special moments will be captured by my photographer and I am more likely to look and show my kids and grandkids wedding photos vs a video of the ceremony! Also like you said it costs just as much as a photographer and I don't have money for that!

I have heard some Brides regret not having the wedding filmed. A freind of mine's uncle did a great job for her, which is great!

I am not hiring a videographer, for me is it not worth the expense. We did opt to hire a second photographer, so ensure out sepcial moments are captured
