Who sets up the reception?

Danielle, on June 15, 2018 at 00:27 Posted in Wedding reception 0 24

Hi all! I'm having a very DIY wedding that Im keeping relatively inexpensive so I don't have a venue that offers set up services. Is this something you could ask Aunts and Uncles/cousins to do? Our bridal party will of course be with us the morning of getting ready.

Thoughts?

I might be a bit of a control freak, but I'm in the same boat. Trying to figure out who I trust enough to set up for me that isn't in my wedding party.

Like, I love my family, but my aunts have also threatened a Star Wars X Little Mermaid themed wedding, so...like...maybe I should just be in control? lol

I am going to have a simple DIY wedding too and my aunt who lives 15 mins away from our event venue offered to help setting up. Can't be anymore grateful for that Smiley smile

Yes! Print a guide for anyone helping. I have started this for hubby to be and his groomsmen. They will have a few tasks and then of course the MOH will check on them Smiley winking

I was able to book my venue space the night before for a few hours for set up. We will be able to most of the decor prior and then the caterer will finish the tables. If you have a close family member that is looking for a task then delegate something to them. Booking some additional time for set up before was so worth it.

We are setting up the day before, I am having the wedding party and any family who is able to help. I have a specific vision and want to ensure all the details are completed.

We are going to take down the night of, the wedding party and friends are going to help with that.

Good point! Will there be time to go home and get ready or will people be setting up in their wedding outfits?

I am having lots friends and family (I expect anywhere between 10-20 people there!) help set up our venue the day before the reception, and tear down the day after.

One thing to be aware of is your timeline - if you are having family/friends set up and tear down, I strongly suggest having your venue for more than the day of the wedding. I was VERY insistant on people NOT having to set up/tear down the day of the wedding - I want that day to just be fun for everyone! So I made sure to get our venue with time on either side (We get the key's Thursday night at 6 pm and return them Sunday at 6 pm; wedding is on Saturday).

Totally okay to recruit family, or even family friends that you trust! Try and appoint one person to be in charge and make sure they know how everything is supposed to come together and have them delegate tasks!

I will be recruiting family to help me. I already told my dad and my FH's dad we will also recruit a few cousins. I have one cousin who will be there to make sure it turns out how I envisioned.

Yes you can definitely ask family to help out. Just make sure you pick wisely and that you trust that they will follow your setup instructions and understand the look you want and won’t go rogue on you.

Usually family will be more than willing to help out just make sure you have some pictures or instructions for them to follow.

I think if you put together a good team of family and friends that are willing to help it shouldn't be a problem.

I am having a wedding at 5:00pm on a Saturday, and my venue is a restaurant. The manager is specifically coming in early (read: 9:00am) so I can setup the space so I have time to go back to my hotel and get my hair/makeup done, get my kids ready, get pictures done, etc.

That being said, I do have my decor vendor coming to help setup my arbor/draping and floral on the arbor... So I definitely will have some help, but 95% of it is going to be all me. I'm too much of a control freak to let it go to someone else completely.

Okay...am I crazy? I want to set up!

Not that I'm a control freak. But we're having a Friday evening wedding. Ceremony wont be until 4:30/5ish.

When I told my photographer, she was horrified that I would even think to set my own wedding up lol. But what am I supposed to do until 3:30ish? Twiddle my thumbs?

I've got people in my life who would probably change the design the day of if I wasn't supervising, so I'm probably going to hire a DOC to overlook setup.

Absolutely! Ask any of your relatives you think will be willing to help and/or any other friends who are attending the wedding (though if you have a big bridal party, you may not need to).

I had a couple friends offer to help, so I will be assigning them this task. Thankfully we don't have too much to do though! And, I will be going over it with them beforehand so they know what I want.

I'll be getting help from my parents and my in laws for setting up. The aunts and uncles that we are really close with will also be helping us. They have all volunteered and want to be a part of it, so its a win win Smiley smile
