I agree with what everyone else has posted this is outdated and the reality is these days the couple foots the bill for most things. Unless you are super traditional (and these days most people aren't) anything your parents contribute is just a nice treat but not expected at all.

I guess I'm lucky because my parents are paying half and my fiancee and I are splitting the other half.

I think this is a little old fashioned. It's our wedding so we are footing the bill.

Yeah I agree. That would have been great if our families had been able to help contribute to the wedding but we did almost everything ourselves and I definitely appreciate the areas where our families did help out!

Its your wedding so these days you don't/cant rely on others paying for your wedding especially since they can be pretty expensive. As Brenda and Valerie stated its an added bonus or icing if other offer to help.

Definitely a change in practices. Realistically it doesn't apply to how many couples have had to cover many expenses themselves. If you get a helping hand with costs that's an added bonus for sure.

Definitely an outdated practice. No one is responsible for your wedding but you and if other offer to help that is just icing!

I think this is dead on of how things should be but like Simone said it is not realistic in all cases. I know for my situation we have paid for everything ourselves.

I agree with this completely! Realistic this does not happen in all cases based on situations and dynamics and also if cultures come into play.
