Who is standing at your side on your big day?

Amanda, on July 30, 2019 at 12:02 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 48

Heyyyy you newly engaged planners!

Have you picked your wedding party yet? Who is with you? How did you decide? How did you ask them? Tell us EVERYTHING!!!!

I had my 2 closest friends as my bridesmaids and my brother was my best man. A little non traditional but it was awesome to have my big brother stand with me, he even picked up my dress when I was trying to spin around at the altar.

It is such a fun process and you want great people spending the day with you.

We picked ours and we did proposal boxes for everyone in our wedding party! I took my girls to lunch and gave them all boxes and they all screamed and were hugging each other. I picked one cousin, my FH’s sister and 3 friends! I picked them cuz they are the people I tell everything too and have been talking too for years and I anticipate on talking to them for the rest of my life!

My twin is my maid of honour, and then I have a cousin from my mom’s side as one bridesmaid and a cousin from my dad’s side as my other bridesmaid - that way I am representing both sides of my family Smiley smile My either is a groomsman, and my fiance’s best friend is best man and my fiancé’s brother is his other groomsman. So mainly family 😛

Our party is 8 on each side... I have ALOT of siblings who I’m close to so my “side” kind of filtered into my FH side, which is okay because he has a smaller circle of friends and family. We also have a mixed gender party on both sides because my FH has a couple female BFFs. My little sister is my MOH and my FH’s brother is his best man. Also one of my adult friends is our flower girl... walking my dog as my ring bearer down the isle 😅😅🙊

    Hello,
I chose my best friend to be my maid of honor, my sister to be one of my bridesmaids and my FH brothers girlfriend to be my other bridesmaid. I made them all a gift box asking them. I ordered everything from weddingstar!

My two closest friends are my maid of honour and bridesmaid. FH is having two of his closest friends stand for him. My brother is walking me down the aisle. Not having flower girls, ring bearer, or ushers.

For our wedding party, we chose to stick with our close friends which we have 2 maid of honour, 3 bridesmaids and one bridesman lol it’s not traditional at all since we are 2 brides and no groom so we opted for something different and unique. Our families won’t be attending since we decided to have a small and private wedding. Elopement kind of wedding. Our parents don’t agree with our marriage unfortunately so they won’t be attending either. My fiancée’s parents don’t like some of her friends as well so they won’t attend. It makes me sad but at the same time our close friends are like family to us and they have been there and supported us through everything.

My best friend is walking me down the aisle and my fiancée’s best friend and aunt will be walking her down the aisle. We can’t wait !!! Our bachelorette is this Friday already ! One month left until we say I do !

For our bridal party we chose to stick with close friends of ours. My fiancé found it more challenging to narrow down his top 4 because it’s a large group of buddies that have grown up together yet my fiancé was in every wedding lol we ended up asking one of his friends to be our MC so that he still had a special role in our big day to include everyone however we could

I decided who my maid of honour would be based on my closest friend/family member and who I can trust to get the jobs done. I then chose bridesmaids based on family members whom I am close to as well as my closest friends that I couldn’t see going through the day without!

My FH and I decided to use mainly our nieces and nephews for our bridal party. We have our nephew as the sign bearer, 3 nieces as flower girls, another niece is a junior bridesmaid, nephew junior grooms man, my sister as my maid of honor and his son is his best man. We’re so excited to be sharing our special day with them in 30 days 😊

For my bridal party, I picked my two closest friends, my sister (as my MOH), my fiancé’s sister who is amazing and my two cousins. I asked them by throwing a bridal brunch and each received this box (MOH’s box was a little different).

I asked my siblings so they couldn’t say anything about that!!! I think people will be fine with who you asked!!! Also I gave jobs to other friends who I might’ve had in the party... like donut pickup, picking up the cake ..... having bridal shower at their place !!!! And honestly it’s more fun going to a wedding when your not in the party so just have fun.... the day is about you and what you want don’t let friends decide if something else will make you happy!!!

I think it really depends on the relationship. When my brother got married, I was not asked to be a bridesmaid and I wasn't hurt by it. At that time I wasn't very close with his now wife, had she asked me I would have known it wasn't because she wanted me by her side, but because I was the sister of her future husband. I personally do not think that is a good enough reason. There are other ways you can include family though if you are concerned feelings may be hurt. If you are going to have an MC, or task someone to kind of be the coordinator of the day if you don't have a wedding planner. Otherwise as cheesy as it sounds - follow your heart.

I have four people on my side of the wedding party, two "of honours" (I'm avoiding saying "maid" since one of them is non-binary)

My best friend since Jr High, two of mine and my FH's closest friends that I've known the entire time we've been together, and my younger cousin who will always be my first best friend.

I have chosen my daughter, as my maid of honour, and my dearest longtime friend at matron of honour, along with my cousin and 2 nieces. When you are close with your family it's the best so friends don't get offended if they are not asked. My son and mother will escort me up the aisle and then my son will join the bridal party.

Good luck and congrats to all the newly engaged! Have fun

Have you had to explain your decision to some friends who assumed they would be chosen? I know a couple of my girl friends would be hurt by not being chosen and I don’t know how to approach the situation.

I completely agree with this! I’m worried to choose friends for that exact reason. I don’t want to regret my decision down the road.

We are having all our sisters (5 total) my 2 brothers and our 3 best guy friends!!!
We tried to pick people we know will be in our lives forever and who will be with us every step of our marriage!!!
My sister in law has been married to my brother for 4 years and she doesn’t speak to one person who was in her wedding party so when she looks at her wedding pictures it’s kind of sad everytime!!!!
Pick people that will be with you for life!!!

Our wedding is going to be small, we agreed to have 3 each for my fiancee and mine sides. Since he doesnt know who all he wants for his side and I did have orginally had 5 bridemaids in mind, but things change.

I will have my best friend as my maid of honor (amazing friend and no other person is like her), my sister (even though we are not the closest), and the man of honors wife.
But who know things may change, we dont get married until 2021.

I have not officially asked my girls yet, my maid of honor knows, my sister had no idea and the man of honors wife said no at first but i will ask her again when its closer to the time. But its understandable because she just had a baby and her husband has had a talk with her about saying no. "not sure if that'sa good thing or not"

I have my oldest friends standing with me. My MOH I’ve known for 15 years, one of my bridesmaids I’ve known for about the same, but we’ve been close friends for 10 years, and my other bridesmaid I’ve known for about 8 years, and she’s helped me through some rough stuff. I asked them by putting together a cute little gift box with some cactus stickers, a lip balm, sheet mask, and some chocolates with a card that I printed off on silver card stock. My MOH I asked at my first dress shopping trip because she lives out of town and I was there for a concert, so she had no idea I was asking and started to cry, it was wonderful. I had 2 other BMs in mind, but wanted to keep our wedding parties smaller because of limited space at our venue, and I didn’t want to have a huge group of people. My fiancé has his brother as his best man, and 2 closest friends from high school whose weddings he was in. He didn’t do much of anything special when he asked them, but is going to purchase part of their day of attire as a thank you gift.

My fiancé and I originally wanted a very intimate wedding and knew we would only want 1 person each standing with us. For me it was a no brainer, my best friend of 15 years (even though I have 2 sisters). However on my fiancé’s side, he chose his only brother (which made the decision easier as he did not want to have to chose between his 2 best friends). You would think why not have 2 extra groomsmen and bridesmaids? For one, makes choosing clothing colors a lot easier as his brother lives in another country, second, 2 are exes not on best of terms, and third, most important, we really preferred to have a small wedding party ❤️

I asked my best friend to be my maid of Honor. I actually asked her before I was even engaged because I was drunk at a wedding and being sentimental. So afterwards, a quick text telling her how much I love her and needed her on my big day was an easy ask. Then I also asked my sister and another good friend to be my bridesmaids. I considered my fiancé's sister as well, but we want to keep the parties small since our wedding is also very small (about 50 guest estimate).

Its true having a wedding party that is beside you be part of your life and day. The fact that close friends/family are chosen for the right reasons. Our MOHs and BM (Best Men) took part of the reception entrance except for one and not giving a speech, disappointed in that too. He still was thanked though he being shy wasn't the best thing to do.

Overall, we were happy with our choices made and being long term friends for the most part.

Ours if fairly big. I have two co-maids of honour, one is my best friend of 17 years and the other is a good friend I met through my fiancé. Then I have a friend from elementary school, a friend from highschool and a friend who was my boss in University but is now a good friend. For boys we have my fiancé's best friend as our best man, his college friend, two of his school friends from back in India who immigrated at the same time as him and my little brother as well as my friends son as our junior groomsman

Or no one! Initially we really didn't want a wedding party, it wasn't something that was important to us and we knew we didn't want all the pre wedding parties so really their only job is to stand beside you. Our minds were changed, but both of us still have said we would have been completely fine standing up there alone. It was about us and quite honestly, if we were the only people who showed up that day we would have been more than happy.
