Where did you go overboard?

Lynnie, on December 12, 2018 at 13:05 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16

Wedding planning is a constant balance between doing enough and not doing too much! While we all spend time thinking about ways to cut corners and save a little money, I'm sure we also all have places where we've taken things a little too far!! Smiley laugh

Where have you gone overboard? Have you purchased too many decorations, provided more than enough dessert options, or spent wayyy too many hours agonizing over the font for your invitations? It's time to spill!

We went over budget on the photographer but its 100% worth it for a good photographer.

So far I have been good. and haven't gone overboard on anything. there are things I've wanted but then I rationalize and weigh out if its worth the money.

even to the point...I heard a harp player at a wedding show (my fav instrument to hear). and she wasn't a bad price. I was telling my coworker/good friend the next day. and she said well I was gonna give you this much cash...how about I help pay for the harp player. and I couldn't even accept it because it was not a necessity and over priced on what I wanted to spend an a ceremony musician.

Our venue was more than anticipated but we really couldn’t find anywhere else that we liked, or that was “us”. Photography/videography was $200 over budget so not awful. We will try to save in other areas now to make up for the venue!

While I haven't gone overboard with anything, I know I could've saved money in certain areas!

Indian bags with handle and organza bags over limit. I bought it as a lot and had extras for later in case. The use of organza bags comes in handy for Christmas time candy gifts.

100% agree with you. I do not regret any of my vendors that I picked. But I wish I visited more venues just to really look around and compare.
Once I have my mind set on something, if I don’t get it I don’t like it. So I wanted to make sure all vendors I wanted were available for our wedding date. So I booked super fast to avoid someone else scooping them up! It’s like going to winners lol. When you find something you love buy it because the next time you go back it might not be there

We'll be pretty close to being on budget... however, I went super overboard on my dress. Once you include alterations and taxes, I think my dress is almost $3k.... which is a fair bit on a normal day, but a LOT when your budget is $18k.... Smiley shame hehehe...

Ummm I've become overly invested in perfecting our wedding website, as well as our wedding invitations. Both of which I have designed myself. My FH told me I wasn't allowed to look at them until we were ready to print/publish haha.

I went overboard on my dress + veil. My budget for both including alterations was $1500. That turned out to be a difficult task, and I bought my dress and veil for $1700. Had to pay to have it cleaned $100 and still need some alterations, so looking at around $2100. Yikes!

I haven't gone overboard on anything, I don't think - in fact, I'm at or below budget on everything so far (With the biggest savings being my dress - I got it for 750$ with taxes vs my 1500$ budget - yay sample sale!).

That said - I think my fiancé might say I've got too much wedding stuff stored at our house. But only because it's taking up room, not because it isn't needed.

I haven't necessarily gone overboard on anything, but I flip-flop between not caring at all to caring wayyy to much about small details (e.g. centerpieces, signage, things your guests won't really notice lol).

I've also gone from telling the wedding party what colour/style to get their attire in to wanting to order them something specific myself lol.

I'll definitely go overboard whenever I'm in my hometown/where my wedding is! There will be times where I'm running from meeting to meeting but it will be worth it!

I'm a worrier, so I overthink and worry about everything. I'll admit that the one time it went the most overboard was worrying about what tablecloths to use. Right now though my current agony is the fact that our engagement shoot is exactly one month away and it's yet to get cold enough for any snow we get to stay on the ground for longer than a day. I want snowy engagement pics!

Probably just too much time spent worrying about stuff that need to be worried about! I am such a worrier and would fret about not having things done and now that most of the main things are dealt with I wish I would have just slowed down and enjoyed some of the vendor picking.
