Where are you taking your wedding portraits?

Joey, on July 11, 2019 at 08:29 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12

Most couples take a series of staged photos with family and the wedding party, either before the ceremony or during the cocktail hour. When are you taking yours, and where??

Will your portraits be taken at the place where you'll get ready?

We will most likely talking the bulk of our photos at the ceremony/reception site, but will most likely go to a local park and take pics there as well.

We're definitely going to do a mix of all of the above. We're doing first look and right now are toying with the idea of doing it at the spot that we got engaged - but TBD because it involves a few minutes of hiking. Regardless, we'll find some cool, scenic areas to take photos before. We will also take some portraits, but also group/family photos at our ceremony spot because it's very beautiful and overlooks the lake. Finally, the photographer scheduled in a bit of time to take pictures at our reception spot which is a cool old brick building downtown. I'm really excited to have the mix of scenic/outdoor pictures and cool urban pictures!

The way the pictures were separated due to timing:

Pre wedding: Family shots of getting ready with each groom

After wedding: Group shots based on who was in what part of our sections. Family was considered VIP and the last to take so that everyone was part of it.

I'm hoping the majority will be taken at the ceremony venue/reception venue (same venue but different rooms). We really don't want to move off-sites since we are all staying there overnight (hotel FTW!) and getting ready - I didn't book transportation, but can use personal vehicles if necessary. There's a park across the road from the venue so we could also go there!

We'll do our photos during cocktail hour immediately after the ceremony since our ceremony and reception are at the same venue. They have gardens, vineyards, beach - a bit of the best of every world, which was a big factor in choosing the venue. Start with the whole family, then they can take off for cocktails while we do the bridal party, then they can split and we'll do our couple photos.

They will be taken at 3/4 of those options! lol

Our venue is where we are getting ready, having the ceremony, and having the reception.... now that I think of it, it also counts as a special location as it's 45 min. outside the city limits!

We are doing our immediate family and bridal party photos before the ceremony at a local spot. Then we will have the big family pictures and some more bride and groom photos at our ceremony/reception spot.

Ours will be done before the reception. Our bridal party will get done after our bride and groom photos and then we’re asking our family to come to the reception venue about an hour before the reception for photos!
