When to go Dress Shopping

Brittany, on June 29, 2020 at 19:21 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 5
I know that you would buy your dress about a year in advance, but how early did you start looking to see what you wanted?
I’ve tried looking at pictures and I like so many different styles and fits that I know I need to go try them on myself to see what I even like. So of course I want to do this before I go to buy a dress.
We aren’t getting married until July 2022, however from September-May I am in school and will be working weekends. I can’t exactly afford to take time off of work and will be way too busy with school as it is. I couldn’t even do ANY wedding planning until this summer so I couldn’t imagine trying to find time with my bridesmaids for dress shopping. So as soon as I’m done school next summer I will be going to look for a dress with no idea what I want and that worries me. Would it be unreasonable to go look this summer before school starts again even though I won’t be getting married for 2 years.

Depending on your engagement, you can go 6 months in advance to buy your dress getting the alterations done if needed. You feel you need more time than that, base your shopping time accordingly to your schedule.

As an alternative, has rental come to mind if you don't wish to make your budget as high and not keeping after the day you get married? The price is less expensive and returned the next day or after its dry cleaned depending on the company policy.

My sister in law looked for and bought her dress 7 months in advance but she only had a 9 month engagement.

My cousin looked for and bought her dress I would say 10months in advance. Her engagement was about 15 months.

I started looking for my wedding dress almost a year and a half before my wedding date. I bought my dress in January 2019 and it took 7 months (July 2019) for it to come in.

Yeah. I have a feeling I’m going to be very picky and don’t want to have to rush to do it next summer.

Your bridesmaids can wait until mid-late 2021. If I were you, I would make an appointment with any bridal store while places are still open, just so you can try on different dresses to give yourself an idea of what styles work. Maybe do one high end/boutique one and one chain store like David's. That way, by the time you're ready to make the purchase, you can shop more diligently, targeting stores with your style and price point as opposed to running around from shop to shop, which based on friends' experiences, can last months depending on how picky they are.
