When to Buy Bridesmaid Dresses due to Covid

Tay, on September 22, 2020 at 10:55 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 11
I'm planning on asking my Bridesmaids to buy their dresses from Azazie just so they can wear the colour that I have envisioned. I'm just wondering when they should buy their dresses. I'm hearing dresses are taking 5 months to come due to Covid and I'm worried that if they order too late their will be a delay. Also, if they need to return the dress or make adjustments they won't have enough time. Wedding is July 2021 and I'm thinking they should order by this November. Do you think that's too early?

The bridesmaid dresses do take time to get delivered, then ordering in advance seems right and getting the fitting done month or two before the day and have no concerns for no excuse.

Yes I did see your comments on the other post! I noted the custom sizing option to one of my bridesmaids not the other yet. But the one is unsure about it. Ultimately I guess it's their choice. But I'll definitely tell them that maybe the should size up 1-2 sizes considering their in the curvier side

Okay! Awesome that gives me a good idea. I'll talk to them and see if they can order sooner rather then later like other people also said. A current 8week Delivery time is not bad at all. Especially if things run late or alterations need to be made!

Our wedding is June 2021 and we ordered bridesmaid dresses from Azazie this week!!

The estimated shipping dates are Oct 28 - Nov 2 as of right now. I figure this will give us plenty of time to get alterations if necessary, or do a return if the dress wasn't what someone imagined.

    Never too early IMO!

I personally don't think it's too early at all! My MOH had bough her dress for my wedding back in December 2018 for my August 2020 wedding (we've postponed until August 2021)We had bought it that early because we both loved the dress and it fits perfectly with the them of my wedding. We just bought it a size or two bigger that way if she does happen to gain a bit of wait we can still alter it to her size and she wont be mad if we had bought a smaller size and she doesn't fit into it since it's almost 2 years later.

Sooner the better I think! I would do it now if your girls can financially do it, or if they can’t wait until January. Personally, I would order no later than 6-7 months out. We ordered the bridesmaid dress in April. I was worried because of covid. The original ETA pre covid was 4-6 weeks. It ended up taking 4 and a half months! This was a bridal shop, not online.

If you're ordering the standard size at Azazie (aka "off the rack"), it won't take them five months. That being said, parts of Canada post has shut down or delaying operations due to a covid exposure.

It may take them that long if you get custom sizing but it also helps that they have a Canadian warehouse so it'll bypass US mail and customs.

I mentioned this to another poster about Azazie - if you're not getting custom sizing, make sure you're reading the size guide of each individual dress carefully. A dress listed as size 4 may not fit the same as a standard American size 4 you find at the department store. The dresses are made in China and thus fit their standard body sizes more than the typically curvier bodies of North Americans.

Sooner the better! I’m getting married next October and we went bridesmaid shopping this past Saturday! Majority of my girls got their dress, the rest are going again and ordering by end of October at the latest. Reason being is with cases going back up in Ontario I was super stressed about things shutting down again and then having no idea of when they’ll reopen.

First off, this is great news that you are still thinking so positively and looking to purchase bridesmaid dresses!

The sooner the better is always the best case. My wedding was supposed to be this December and my bridesmaids were supposed to order theirs in April but due to Covid, they couldn't order until June (David's Bridal). We were told 20-22 weeks for these to come in .. that's so long and I thought for sure they wouldn't be in on time! Thankfully all the dresses just arrived but we changed to Dec 2021 anyways so we would have been fine.

Honestly, if you know the color you want and the dress type, I would definitely look at ordering anytime between now and November because you just never know. It's best to have them as soon as possible that way you don't need to stress about them not arriving in time. This will leave plenty of time for alterations if needed.

My bridesmaids ordered their dresses online back in May and they arrived within a month I believe. The site at the time advised it could take 2 months so I think most companies are being conservative with their ETA for delivery. I think ordering around Nov/Dec would be fine.

The site I ordered from also allowed customized sizing so one of my bridesmaids used that function and we had no issues with her sizing. Another used just ordered based on the sizing chart and had an issue with the bust being slightly too big but her mom was able to take it in easily. That being said, I would say to use customized sizing if Azazie offers it, or order up so that it is easier to for a seamstress to adjust the fit of the dress if needed.

I don't think there is a "too early" these days. If you already know what colors you want you might as well order them sooner than later.

The only part that would make me pause is: are your bridesmaids ok with buying them now? Have they had time to process being asked to be in the wedding? Can they afford to buy the dresses now vs having a few months to save up and ordering a little later?
