When to book the venue?

Stephanie, on April 17, 2018 at 12:54 Posted in Wedding reception 0 21

Hey all!

Just been having a concern of when you should lock down the venue?

I know the list here says 10-12 months, I have about 13 months till our big day!

We have found a venue we both REALLY like and price is good, distance, food, pretty much everything! But I'm worried about booking it without checking out all other options around... and then I'm also worried about waiting and seeing other locations and possibly losing this one :'(

What do you guys think? Should I go for it since we're happy with what we found or keep searching just in case something better is out there?

Any similar experiences?

That was an idea to "hold the date" but they only allowed for up to a week and due to my fiance and my schedules theres honestly not much looking elsewhere within a week.

I think everyone here is right though! If we love it just go for it! In all honesty the venue is just a part of the day! Its the people that will really make the day what it is so no matter where we go we know our day will be amazing!

Like other said, do it as soon as possible! Our wedding is on June 30th 2019 and I contacted a venue last November and got told they're already completely booked for summer 2019, so it's wayyy not too early!

I think you should book as soon as you can! We fell in love with our third venue and stopped looking. No regrets. They also had one Saturday left in the summer which sealed our wedding date!

If you think you will regret not looking at more venues, could you ask the venue to “hold” the date for you? Our venue wouldn’t hold it without a deposit but they did say they would let us know if someone else was interested and then we would have 24 hours to decide (it meant raising our budget which is what took us a few days to decide!)

We booked two years in advance, and it was the last weekend of October available. If it's a venue that's very popular/has high ratings, I would book asap to secure your date. That was the case with us. Plus I fell in love with our venue before I was even engaged and none of the other options we looked at came close. Take the time you need to find one you love, but don't wait too long to snatch it up once you find that special venue.

We booked it 18 months in advance and it was the only venue we looked at that had our date available. I’d say book yours ASAP! The longer you wait, the less options you’ll have available.

    That's fair!

They say the same thing about your wedding dress too! Once you decide stop looking!

We booked 18 months ahead and didn’t get the first date we wanted. Haha. I decided to stop looking at different locations because I started to second guess myself. I went with my gut and places book up so fast.

If you love the place and they have your date, and it fits your budget, book it.
you could even talk to the venue and see if they will tentatively hold the date for you till say the weekend or monday without a deposit. and then go gung ho at looking at other venues online etc.
    good luck!

Yea I didn't realize how far in advance need to book. I am also from smaller town and there was only so much venue around and this had accommodations at it as well. Huge selling point for us as venue was far from our place. It helped my Fiancé realize we needed to step up a notch with looking at different vendors!

See that's also my worry! We have a very specific date that we want as it has a LOT of meaning to us... If we were more open about dates I wouldn't be so nervous...

I honestly wish we had less at this point... every time I talk to someone else they mention another 2 or 3 venues I haven't even heard of yet Smiley laugh

He likes the venue we have in mind a lot! But he's also not wanting to rush the decision... which I fully understand I just also know how urgent this decision it.

We booked ours in March. and we are getting married July 2019. I wanted it done and booked so I wouldn't have to worry about not getting a reception space that I wanted. But I was also open to a date (I told venues any time between April 2019 and Oct 2019). got our pricing. and then picked end of july because it worked well for us and money wise and for some people in our life.
and I totally wouldn't worry if you are early on "suggested timelines".

Lol oh goodness I wish we had more options where I live but I suppose it makes it harder to decide... I would see what your fiancé wants and then go with your gut!

That's a good point! I'm lucky we are doing a Friday which is a bit more open? But still a few venues have turned me away when I mentioned the date we want and its making me panic...

We've been looking and doing visits for about 2-3 months now! I have still some on a list that I want to see... but I could make this list endless with all the options that are here...

We booked ours around 18 months in advance as we found everything booked fast. We also love the venue and was little more in ways but it is popular spot. We didn't want to loose it.

    ASAP!
We booked it 18 months in advance, in order to secure the date we wanted. The venue's owner did tell us that she was attending a bunch of wedding shows after the holidays, which would put our dates at risk of being booked by other people, so we jumped on it right away.

We booked ours about 15 months in advance I would say book it if you’re both happy! Or have you been looking for long? If not maybe give yourself another month to search and then book.
