When is the best time to serve dessert?

Anya, on February 19, 2018 at 22:26 Posted in Wedding reception 0 12
We are having a 6:00 dinner...food truck style. 80 guests. We will have speeches and thank you done by 7:00 for live band to start. When should we serve gelato dessert?
7:30? 8:00? 8:30?

I'd say 8:00, gives guests time to eat, digest and relax before dessert.

I would say right after speeches or shortly after the band starts, so 7:30. 8:00pm at the latest.

7:30pm the earliest and 8:30pm the latest would be my opinion.

I think she was asking what time would be appropriate to serve dessert. I'm sure when a food truck starts handing out food her guests will get the message lol.

Why not create a menu card for guests to know there will be dessert served and the timing.

First off, I love the idea of food truck style for reception food - best idea ever.

Second, if you’re not doing any additional late-night desserts, then you should probably serve it at 8-830. If you are having late night food then 730-8.

I second this advice! At my sister's wedding there was no announcement and it was really confusing. When we eventually discovered by chance that dessert was available we in the wedding party ran around telling guests by word of mouth, and I'm sure we missed people who were out of their seats.

What time does your reception end? Is the gelato taking the place of/the same time as your cake, or are they two separate events? Personally I was having way too much fun dancing at my reception and pushed my cake cutting back by about 30 minutes on the day, so with no other info I'd suggest you go for either 8 or even 8:30.

You could do it right after the speeches and before the dance starts. Or, you could start the dance and serve dessert at 8. Then, if you're having a late snack, that could be at 10 so it spreads all the food out.

Whenever you decide to serve it, I'd recommend having someone announce it; I've been to weddings where dessert was wasted because people didn't know it had been served.

We are serving dinner at 6 and dessert around 730 because we are inviting people to the reception starting at 8pm.

I would say 8PM. I wouldn't do it too late.
