When do you send out invitations/rsvps?

Meaghan, on March 2, 2019 at 06:31 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12
I’m pretty sure I want to do electronic invites, so that saves me time for sure - but when are you supposed to send out invites?
I read online that it should be 6-8 weeks before the wedding - is that true?
I understand not wanting to send them too far in advance but I don’t want to send too short notice either

Looking for opinions on what you’re doing or what you have received in the past Smiley smile

We did send out save the dates in November for our June wedding, so everyone is aware that it’s happening

Thanks everyone! I think I’m going to send them out April 1 for my June 15 wedding. The RSVP deadline will be May 15.
I think that’s enough time? Everyone is local and already knows about it from the Save The Date. There’s a handful of people that are from the other side of the country but they all have their flights booked already so I know they’ll be attending.

I guess it really depends on when your wedding is and if you have out of town guests that are invited.

For your wedding being June 2019 I would send them out asap.

For my wedding on October 5th this year and we are sending out our first batch of invited this Easter (so we can hand deliver most of them and save on postage), and have an RSVP deadline of mid June. Then when we get the numbers in we will send out our second batch of invites and request their RSVP by end up August. That way we have our numbers in by a month before the wedding. (So first batch at the 5ish month mark and the second batch at the 3ish month mark.)

We sent ours 6 months prior to the wedding date because my while family is from out of town and the post canada strike was stressing me out. But people still waited until 3 days past the deadline to rsvp.. so i really wish i had waited until the 6-8 weeks. But at the same time, some of my invites came back “return to sender” so that’s also a factor.

We'll be sending our invitations mid-May with a deadline of July 31st, for our September 7th, wedding. This way, we'll have a couple of weeks to call anyone who forgot to RSVP, prep our seating chart and compile our final count before giving it to our venue.

End of March / beginning of April for our invites! Our venue wants guest count a month before, so we might do end of March so we have lots of time to chase people!

We’re also doing save the dates a year in advance!

I am super orangized so I feel like ours will go out by the end of June and RSVP date is Sept 1st for our Oct 4th wedding.
The sooner they get out the less stuff I have in my house!
If you have some people coming from out of town, I think giving them more time would help them plan

I sent out my invites late January for our mid April wedding. RSVPs are due today, 6 weeks before the wedding. Honestly I could have even waited another week to send the invites, most people did not RSVP right away.

It really depends on when you want to. We sent this out last month and our wedding is June 1st. This gives guests lots of time to try and be available that day.

I've always preferred as much advance notice as possible when getting other people's invites, so we are sending ours 3 months before the day Smiley smile

Since you’re sending them out electronically, you don’t have to wait for them to arrive via snail mail, so 2 months is fine. What’s your RSVP deadline?

For us, since we have several OOT guests, we’re sending ours out in April (4 months pre-wedding) and asking for RSVP’s back by mid-June (1.5 months pre-wedding).

Yes true for the time frame your thinking Canada/US guests wise. If your planning on inviting international, may want to think 2 months in advance to have the invite shown to the visa department if proof is needed.

My cousin send out Save The Date as well and she is getting married this September. They will be sending out 2 months prior for us all to reply within a month time.

I think the sooner the better, especially for people that need to travel or book a few vacation days. I've received save the dates 4-12 months in advance, and invitations from a month to several months in advance. I would just contact the guests that you really want there directly, so that they have a bit more of a heads up. Smiley smile Good luck!
