What's on your 'Do Not Play' list? 🎵

Lynnie, on January 30, 2019 at 13:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 12

What songs are on your "absolutely not please don't play" list? Any popular wedding songs that make you cringe? A certain genre or artist you can't stand? What songs will your DJ or band be under strict instructions not to play? 🎵

I hate U2, I don't like "We Are Family", no techno, no requests from our guests to the DJ either!

Oh man! Some of your suggestions are going to be added to my “do not play list!” I am not a fan of Rihanna so definitely no Rihanna songs on my playlist!

    No country.

My FH has a specific hip hop artist he can't stand.

    No techno or top 40.

If I hear Despacito, I'll scream (I love but blame my 8 year old nephew for that).

We love Lauryn Hill, but I once went to a wedding where the dj played "Ex Factor", and though it's a beautiful song, I think it was a bit of a poor choice for a wedding.

Any type of "slide", chicken dance, cotton eye joe, blurred lines, R Kelly, YMCA, my sharona, macarena.

We're also limiting the # of country songs. I'm sure our older family members would love to line dance, but let's keep it to a minimum!

I have a few on our DNP list.

    DO NOT PLAY list

    No heavy metal

No ‘gangsta’ rap (where they talk about bitches and hoes, money, violence, and cars) Hip hop is fine, in moderation.

Very limited country songs (max 6-8 through the night)

    NOTHING Justin Bieber (ick)

    Techno – ew

Anything offensive (rape, murder, etc – I think this mostly falls under Rap, but…just in case)

    Songs

    Mmm bop – Hansen

I love you (always, forever) – Donna Lewis

Who let the dogs out – Baha Men

My Heart Will Go On – Celine Dion

Turn down for what – DJ Snake and Lil Jon

I will always love you – Whitney Houston OR Dolly Parton

    Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke

    Gangnam Style – Psy

My FH HATES Cotton Eyed Joe, Cadillac Ranch, all line dances. I put my foot down however, and I said my wedding MUST have the Cha-Cha Slide.

We both strongly dislike country, but it's a super popular genre so we will set a few slide.

I do not like Sweet Caroline, but FH said it's a must.

    Also anything by R. Kelly!

We aren't having any rap/heavy metal/super twangy country music. There will be a few songs on a do not play list along with those genres.

We've also told the DJ to limit the contemporary country (a lot of guests like these songs) since my FH hates country. He's compromised to having a few played here and there because of our guests (and my mom)

We aren't making an official do not play list - but if we did it would have; all country songs, all rap songs, basically all EDM, jazz, and head banger music.

We'll stick to pop, rock, soul, and polkas!

Oh man where do I start.

We are putting the typical "cha cha slide", "ymca", type songs on our do not play list.

Yes they get the crowd going, but honestly, I have danced since I was 2, and these songs have come up far too much that when I hear them now they have to go lol

We are also not huge rap fans. So any of these popular rap songs will be on our do not play!
