What's in your vows?

Stephanie, on February 7, 2018 at 13:59 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 9

Anyone willing to share what they included in their vows? Doesn't have to be anything specific, just a general idea.

Are you going funny, sweet, cheesy?

Are you going to let anyone read them beforehand?

Well I met my fiance from an online dating site and we have been together for about two years. Ironically he messaged me before 4 years before that on a different dating site but before we met up I was with my ex. So I’m going to mention about how it took him 4 years to find me again.

I’m also going to talk about how strong he is and how kind and supportive. When I miscarried last July it was really hard, but he was there giving me all the love and support I needed. I truly know I am marrying my best friend.

I don't mind sharing! We kept ours short and simple. I absolutely love our entire ceremony. I put it together myself using bits and pieces from other ceremonies and my own writing.

We both said the same vows, which I wrote with some input from my husband.

"Melinda/AJ, I take you to be my best friend, my faithful partner, my wife/husband. I promise to encourage you and inspire you, and to love you truly when life seems easy and when it seems hard. I will forever be there to laugh with you, to lift you up when you are down, and to love you unconditionally through all of our adventures in life together. These things I promise to you today and all the days of my life.”

I talked about meeting him, some inside jokes or sayings, made some promises and told him I loved him.

I didn't let anyone read them ahead of time but I got the reactions I wanted so it all worked out.

Just the regular vows though the ones we wanted to do couldn't be part of it due to the Officiant's license.

I included my fiancé’s nickname, a couple inside jokes and some memories. My MOH has read them and she laughed and cried during them just like I did when I wrote them. I am also having the best man read them and my fiancé will have both the best man and MOH read his as well.

I don't think I'll let anyone read them in advance. I'm keeping mine REALLY simple, short and heartfelt.

I started with a couple reasons why he is my person.

Then have a few 'I vows to ____________" and chose things that are the most important things to me.

And then finished with something sweet.

We think we are going to slip in a few funny things, nothing big because we will save the good stuff for out speech. So mostly stick to sweet stuff, very simple and to the point too because we don't like public talking. Also probably going to let my maid of honour read them beforehand.
