What to do with items that have old date?

Briana, on March 27, 2020 at 13:00 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
Hi All! Here’s a question to the COVID-19 brides who’ve had to change their wedding date. What did or are you going to do with all of the items that have your old date on them?

For example, we have handkerchief gifts for family members, a welcome sign, hangers, guest book etc...

I'm seeing a lot of couples going ahead with using their original dated items. It's a way to save costs, and your guests will be totally understanding.

I'm really hopeful that things will turn around by June. I'm just not convinced the ban will be removed for large gatherings by my date but if not, I guess we move again. My vendors have been really good to deal with so far.

We were hoping to reschedule for this year but our whole “team” wasn’t available so we pushed until next year. Part of our concern was also having to go through this again in a few months. I’m hoping for everyone that it blows over soon.
I’ve heard rumours of June/July so my fingers are crossed that that would be the absolute latest!

You know what they say, “in like a lion, out like a lamb”... even though it’s about Winter I’m sure we could use it for this.

Lol. Oh trust me I’m smiling through tears lol. What can you do really.
I will buy a stamp and stamp back of each box with new date and something cheeky. Have to try make best of it. We’ve officially postponed to Aug 1, 2020 because all vendors were available but I am fully aware and prepared to
    Move it again if needed.

I completely understand, Ashley, and I feel as though only a week or so ago I had the same emotions. After so many people have said to just use them an embrace it (and much emotion settling) I agree with them. It’s heartbreaking right now to see all these items but in the end, that day will always be special with your partner because that’s the date that you promise to start your life together. My partner and I are still fighting to get married on April 18th, even if it’s just the two of us but if we don’t, I told him that my heart and soul is still married to him on that day.

I completely agree, “better to acknowledge and embrace it”. I feel like that’ll be my new motto throughout this experience.

Ha ha I love that Michelle! I honestly never thought of reusing them, maybe cause at that point I was still in the denial stage but I love the idea of still using them. Plus it’s so expensive to replace, and what would you do with 200 can koozies?

We currently have two wedding guestbooks - the first has the original date (unfortunately, we were double booked) and the second with the new date we selected, which is now void since we have officially postponed our wedding.

We aren't purchasing a third. Instead, we thought of a engraving a piece of metal or embossing a piece of material and placing it over the old date.

I agree with the others - it is a part of our story, now - better to acknowledge and embrace it.

Ha all my favours have may 23, 2020 and I refuse to buy anything else new. So no matter what our date is, there will be favours that say Best day ever with the date. Maybe one day we can laugh about it. Lol. Hope so anyway

I love that idea! I never thought of using them, just figured we may as well get new ones but I like your take on embracing it!

I would embrace the old date, unless you think it might upset you to see the old date on your new date. Like Madisyn said everyone will understand the situation.

Some of the items you could look into getting new decals made to cover the old date, like on your welcome sign, or see if the old date can be removed and redone.

The dated items created can be used and being a reminder of the date you kept. Pictures wise it will be nice to get as well as keepsake items. A way to reprint the new date for the guest book to put on top of the old date would be great to hide that information. Other things done can be used for pictures purposes. Wedding sign wouldn't worry about unless there is a date to replace on it.

We're using them anyway. Everyone knows our situation, and I'm hoping it's something we can laugh about when we eventually get around to having our wedding!
