What to do for Wedding Favours?

Meaghan, on December 27, 2018 at 12:21 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 11
I’m torn on what to do for Wedding Favours.. I’d like to keep it to a MAXIMUM of 2$ per. I want something useful, not something everyone’s just going to throw away.
I’ve seen mixed reviews on “engraved things”, which is totally understandable. But my thoughts were to do a shot glass - quite a few people I know collect them. Plus it’s not weird if you just have one (unlike a coaster or a wine glass).
But then again, am I insulting the grandparents by giving them a shot glass...?
Please help! Any type of feedback is welcome !

I literally JUST (one hour ago), finished making my wedding favours. I did individual (makes 2 glasses) hot chocolate mixes. I bought bulk hot chocolate mix from Costco, as well as the biggest bags I could get of chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. I ordered favour bags (cones) that came with twist ties off Amazon.ca, and I purchased ribbon from Walmart during the Christmas season. I'm going to order personalized stickers for each one that will have our names, a "thank you" across it, and the wedding date. Everything from start to finish altogether to make 110 favours cost me $150. Or $1.36 per favour. It also took me, my mom, and one friend 2 hours to make them all.

Hot chocolate worked for me because my wedding is in January, but you could find a similar idea (flavoured iced tea mix, cocktail mix - minus the booze) that works for June. But doing the DIY ones can definitely be the most cost effective, and has more of a personal touch.

Best result for your budget is candy or chocolates as edibles since there won't be anything left over and everyone enjoys sweets. A simple card with a message even is nice just to acknowledge your guests being present and that is something that is done towards your budget.

My in laws did shot glasses with a candle in it with their initials and date as favours. Useful and to keep after its done.

I like the idea of shot glasses! It's something that people will definitely keep and it's cute. When I think about all the shot glasses I have, I think about half of them were gift from people (when travelling), and they're all so interesting.

We're doing homemade biscotti because my aunt has offered to make them Smiley smile

We’re doing cookies as our favour. We’re doing a brunch so instead of cake for dessert we’re having a cookie table a little later. We’ll have bags out so they can take a few home as well.

In general, but especially for your budget, I think something edible would be great!

Engraved items will likely be more costly as you'll likely have to pay for the items and may have to pay additional for them to be engraved. Plus if you're customizing the items for your wedding (ex: your wedding date, etc.) chances are most of your guests will toss it or store it away after the wedding. I don't think I've ever seen someone display another person's wedding items in their home with the exception of the bride and groom's parents.

I coppied Tyanna’s idea when we first started thinking of what to do for our favours. We are having our ceremony in remembrance of our angel baby and also celebrating our rainbow baby. We have made seed packs with wild flowers and some with forget me knots. For me I wanted to have something that is usable either by the guest or they can always give it to someone else and by planting so many seeds it may help the bees. We got envelopes from amazon for cheap and bought labels at staples. My fiancé designed a beautiful label that says Let love grow with wild flowers and then our names and wedding date and at the bottom, “In loving memory of Rowan Jaylin.” We bought a lb of seed in bulk in winter lol. I think for 200 favours it cost us at most 200 dollars if that.

We are doing wildflower seeds! We have made some wildflower seed bombs that can be thrown wherever and will bloom, as well as packets of wildflower seeds for people to take if they want! Whatever is left we will take and plant ourselvesSmiley smile

They're super cheap and easy, as well a something you can feel good about!

Personally I prefer edible favours! I do have a wine glass from my cousins wedding which is a nice keepsake!
We are looking at doing M&Ms personalized so they are fun and we can eat the ones people leave behind!

I personally find something edible to be the best giveaway! Can you do a little box with a treat inside? ULINE has some tiny boxes you can get a hundred for like $18 and then fill them with some sweets or goodies!!! My FH and I did homemade wine! If you gave away a bottle per couple youd probably be looking at close to $3 ish per

Funny story, my grandma uses a shot glass to keep her pills for the day in lol so you might find that older people still appreciate a shot glass/find a use for it.

Me and my FH were thinking of doing a shot glass as a favour and to be honest - I don't see any older people getting too upset about it. They were young once too and at least in my family any one of them could have out-drank me in their prime!
