What to do about the gap

JuneBride, on April 18, 2018 at 07:52 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8

We chose a city that is neutral. It is 40 mins to an hour away from everyone who is invited to the wedding. We did that so that his family and my family don't have to travel 2 hours. The banquet hall we chose has cocktails starting at 5 and we are getting married from 2:30 to 3:30. It works out great for us because we can take pictures, but I don't know what the guests will do for that hour and half. Every wedding I've been to had a gap of 4-5 hours and they would go home or to someone's house, but that's not an option. I blocked off some rooms in two different hotels that are near the banquet hall, but who knows how many will book it. What can I do with them for that hour and a half?

The guests may go back to rest and get ready after into another dress or get a bite on the way back to fill the time inbetween. They may mingle in the hotel itself.

Can your cocktail hour start any earlier? Can you book another bar or lounge type space for your guests to chill out in?

We will set up small lawn activities if the weather is good. But this is also the time we will encourage our guests to check into the hotel. We will have appetizers and drinks being served at this time too so the guests that stay and when guests come back they will have a bit to eat and a drink and socialize.

We’re setting out some beverages and some games but I really don’t think you’ll have to worry about it. That’s not too long of a gap ppl will visit and find something to do.

We’re setting up games in between. But honestly, I don’t think you have to worry about it. I think your guests will figure out what they want to do. Often times I’ve just gone to Tim Hortons with friends in the gap at weddings.

I agree with the games idea! Something to keep people entertained between events! I'm not sure about your venue but I know one we are looking at allows people to come into the cocktail area to hang out before cocktail hour actually starts just so people have somewhere to go!

In reality though an hour to 1.5 hours really isn't that long! The ceremony might drag on a bit and if you're doing a receiving line after that will take up a bit of time too!

Check out what is in the area. Maybe there is a restaurant where people can go mingle for an hour or so? Maybe suggest some activities (art gallery? Flower garden? Etc..). It will have to be on them to entertain themselves for that time. Your only asking for an hour in a half. That time will fly by! People will go get coffees or check out the town!

You could have games prepared like yardtzee, giants x and o’s, etc. If you don’t want to do everything, I’m sure people will be fine. A wedding I was at had that size of a gap and my fam and I just went to Tim’s!
