What should i do?

Veronica, on March 23, 2018 at 03:24 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 16
Me and my fiancé got engaged at the beginning of this month. We are hoping to have our wedding next year may 2019. I need a surgery to replace one of my hips and I haven’t seen a doctor to even say I am a candidate for it. It could be another 4 months before I see a doctor. Should we get married next year or should I wait for my surgery.

Definitely hold back on all decisions until you have word from the Dr. As soon as her tells you if and when you'll have the surgery then start planning! Congratulations and good luck!!

Thank you for responding to my post. I was feeling overwhelmed with everything. It will definitely be a big motivator to be able to walk down the isle with out pain and a limp!

Yeah it has been so stressful sorting all off this medical stuff out. I think it will be a good idea to see the doctor first. Thank you

Yes we are so excited and are starting to pick out things we like. But I think we will need to put things on hold.

Honestly if you really want to do both I would go see your doctor as soon as possible to find out if you're a candidate. If they say no then you can figure out your next steps. If they say yes, they can at least give you a general timeline so you can figure out if a May wedding is feasible (ie. time until surgery, recovery time, physiotherapy etc).

I definitely think you should wait before making firm choices but by all means start looking at what you want. Take a look at venues and see what you like. Just don’t put the deposit down until you know what you’re doing with the surgery.

It would probably be a lot less stressful if you waited to talk to a doctor and figured out what is happening with the surgery before going ahead and planning a wedding. I would be awful to start planning the wedding and then have to undo all your hard work if the surgery interferes with it at all

I agree with Andie, and also from my sister having seeing a specialist before the wait times are a while. Its easier to know once you talk to the doctor to see the wait time on when you meet the doctors to healing time to physio time.

I agree with Andie’s advice. Don’t start planning before you know what is happening with your potential hip surgery. Maybe talk to your family doctor about what to expect - I.e. healing time, how long it usually takes to see a specialist to begin your surgery.
I previously wanted to go see a foot specialist for bunions, but the wait was literally so long (took them a year and a half to contact me) that I couldn’t end up going ahead with it.

First of all congrats!! I would say wait until you see your doctor to decide. You don’t want to be in the midst of surgery and physio when you walk down the aisle, but also there might be a long enough wait time that you won’t get in before May anyway. If you do get surgery way before the wedding, it might be a good motivator during physio though! But yeah, I would definitely ask your doctor first and go from there.
