What percentage of people coming are from your side?

Leah, on March 23, 2017 at 11:04 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4

I have no issue with this now however a month ago this was bothering me. Now I am too busy thinking of final details to care that not many people from my list are coming.

A few weeks ago I re-watched the weddings on Friends. Ross's wedding to Emily in London and the season leading up to Monica and Chandler's wedding.

When they were working on the seating plan, Chandler had far less people than Monica. That's me. We have 130 people coming. 45 are from my side, the rest are from his. My family would need to make a long drive (800 + kms) to come but I do have 6 family and friends coming from Vancouver. My local friends all seem to be going away that weekend.

Now I am too busy making sure everything is in place so that people will enjoy being at our wedding to care what side people are from.

No I won't be doing a party closer to them. Most of them have travelled twice as far to go to other cousins' weddings that I have also gone to but coming up here does not seem appealing to them. My aunt and uncle from BC will be making it a big holiday and will visit Tremblant, Montreal and Quebec City. There are a few who booked hotels right away when they got their save the date card but then decided right before our deadline not to come. Others just didn't respond so I had to chase them down. I informed people that I would be down the week before the wedding if anyone wants to get together for a drink. There are no answers so I am doing a Paint Nite with my mom instead.

I'll be visiting an aunt and uncle who aren't coming during the trip down the weekend before as well as my FH and I will visit a cousin who can't come because their son is having surgery next week. I don't want to cram visits in to our honeymoon so we are limiting visits so we can do the things we have planned (brewery tours, wine tours, etc).

Plus I do have some cousins coming up which I am thrilled about so then planning a local party for the others kind of defeats them coming.

It gets complicated. I just want to keep things relatively simple. This is our home so that is why we are getting married here just like all my cousins who have already gotten married. They got married where they live (Baltimore, North Carolina, British Columbia, Niagara Falls etc) and I happily travel to their weddings

Hey Leah! Smiley heart I understand what you mean, it all depends on accessibility and it can be hard when you're from two different provinces. Have you thought of organizing a small party closer to home too? I'm still glad to see that you're family and friends will be coming. Have they ever been to Quebec before? Smiley smile

We have 118 people invited and then there is my fiance and I which makes 120. When I looked through the guest list, we actually both invited 59 people each and so it is even in terms of who is being invited. However we havn't had anyone RSVP yet as we havn't sent out any invitations!

I will probably have more guest comming than him since it is my home town and have more invited guests... It doesn't really matter though since my family is now his family and vice versa.
