What new skills did you pick up while wedding planning?

Joey, on July 17, 2019 at 08:09 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 14

Did you pick up a new skill while wedding planning? Are you now an Excel master? Did you pick up a new crafting skill while you did your DIYs? Are your negotiating skills or party planning skills now better than ever?

What did you learn while wedding planning?

I wouldn't say I have picked up any completely new skills...more extensions on existing skills. I loved doing artsy & crafty things/DIY before wedding planning and my day job is in administration so Excel Black Belt level 5!

I learned more techniques in GIMP/Photoshop and typography as it applies to graphic art for making my invitations! That was exciting. Same with embroidery, already knew it, but now I am the master of doing French knots (it was for a table runner project).

Pretty good at negotiation now haha but honestly planning was my thing for a while so not much changed there.

I feel like I could plan anything now. I have spent so much time doing research and ensuring that things will go according to plan that I can tackle anything now lol.

I would have to say I am a master florist and master bow tier now haha. We DIYed the wedding arch swag and a cute little itinerary sign that has floral bits. I also just finished up tying the chair bows on 100 chairs last night. I am more crafty than I ever realized. I also made our invitations and our guestbook.

I've never planned anything before so it's been a fun experience overall.

I realized I can be a little crafty. With the help of a few YouTube videos I made my invites. Made belly bands, and that square thing you put on the front 😂. It was pretty interesting. Also just the planning, I wasn’t ever really a planner - I’m very random. And now the entire process seems streamlined so it’s actually a good learning process.

I ended up building our centerpieces even though it was my FH job (he kept putting it off until it was too late). So I'm learned how to do "woodworking" sort of. Just nailing and gluing together wooden lanterns. Not something I thought I would be doing.

My reaching out to people over phone/email has definitely improved! I was the person too scared to make my own doctor's appointments before wedding planning!

I'm also more crafty with my DIYs, I use stencils for my projects but I think there's still a bit of skill to it lol

Made all of my excel sheets and docs online so I have auto backup, I can view it anytime on my phone, and edit it together with FH! Smiley smile

I know I'm creative when it comes to small projects keeping it simple and for home décor purposes too. Gifts and wording wise too.

Negotiating is also one of my best skills coming from my father as growing up. Sometimes even just asking about tax free to avoid the extra costs. It did work with most of my vendors and to have that piece of mind.

I've been learning calligraphy so I can address my invites by hand. We're only a couple months away from sending STDs though and I've been slacking lately Smiley amazing

    Nothing really.

Already knew how to sew, negotiate, use excel, etc. They teach that stuff in school (yes, even the negotiating...).
