What is negotiable when negotiating with reception vendors

Aris, on November 30, 2016 at 10:59 Posted in Wedding reception 0 4

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to do my part in helping my fiance plan for the wedding but I lack organizational skills. Glad I found this website haha. What I'm interested in is research and negotiation. What can I get away with negotiating when it comes with selecting a reception venue?

Hi Aris, welcome to the community!! Smiley smile I think the ladies here already made some really good points on what you can negotiate. You should check out this discussion: 6 hidden costs you should ask your venue about

It's important to read the contract with your contractors carefully to see what's included or not and compare prices with other venues. That will give you a good basis to negotiate on. You can request quote to a few of our vendors in your area and see what is included or not to get a better idea: Wedding Venues Winnipeg

What venues have you been looking at so far? Found anything interesting? Smiley winking

Hey Aris! Welcome to the community. That's so sweet you're really getting involved and helping in the planning. I see you aren't geting married until 2018, so you have a bit of time. I found local bridal/wedding shows were AMAZING for getting deals and negotiating prices, and there were TONS of venues at the few I went to. They usually happen twice a year (spring and fall usually). Because there are so many vendors in one area, I found they offered really great deals and would throw in extras to get your business. With a wedding in peak season it's often hard to get them to move of price because they know they can book the space for their usual fee (from what I've heard, I booked off season for that very reason)

If you google Questions to ask wedding venues online, you'll see great questions.
You can negotiate a better price sometimes if getting married on a Friday or Sunday.
Shop around then go back and discuss what others are offering you. Some offer decor, some don't. Some offer wedding cake, some don't.
Find out about any hidden fees, if it's runs late, cleaning etc.
It's always best to ask. You never know what you'll get if you don't!
    Hope this helps!

Points to you for getting in there to help! You will notice you are the minority here Smiley winking but that is a good thing! More grooms should be joining us!

You can negotiate just about anything- might as well ask....because the worst thing that will happen is they say no.

You can ask about including linens, charis etc. in a venue rental, if catering is included find out i there are price breaks for certain guest counts, or upgrades available. Ask point blank if the price is fixed or they can offer a discounted rate.

If the vendor offers a package but say....you only need 5 hours, not 6, and would like an upgraded entree option (I'm making things up here!) you can see if they would be willing to make that subsitution.

I don't recommend going to a venue who quoted you 15,000 for a package and sugggesting you pay 8,000. Vendors won't be very interested in negotiating low ball offers- they won't take you seriously!

Does all of this help? Make sense? Let me know if you need clarification or need help Smiley smile
