6 hidden costs you should ask your venue about

Hey brides and grooms Smiley heart

As weddings require so much planning and investment, I'm sure you'll want to avoid any hidden surprise that will ask you to pay more than you had originally planned.

Here are 6 hidden costs to look out for when booking your venue and to plan in your budget.

10 hidden costs you should ask your venue about

1. Non-approved professionals

Some venues havce a preferred pros lists of caterers and florists and will ask for an additional fee if you want to go for a different one.

2. Overtime Costs

You're wedding might be so much fun you'll want to make it last longer than the time you had originally planned, make sure you know how much your venue will charge for extra hours.

3. Taxes and gratuities

Make sure to check what the total cost is with taxes to plan it into your budget. And ask whether the tip is included in their services.

4. Cake-cutting fee

If you're going for an outside baker, there might be extra fees for cake since the venue will also be in charge of slicing, serving and cleaning the dishes, which means more work for their staff.

5. Set-up, cleanup and breakdown costs

Some venues are full service and won't ask for this additional cost, but some will. Make sure to ask your venue if there will be additional costs to set-up and clean up the venue.

6. Corkage fee

If you're thinking of bringing outside liquor, make sure you're wedding hasd the right permit for that and what costs they will charge for bringing in your own liquor.

OH! I never thought to ask if there was a charge for professionals outside the preferred list. I better check before I start booking people!

One fee i didn't know about was SOCAN fees for the DJs. Depending on the size of our venue we have to have a Sound permit

This is great checklist as I had asked most of these questions with my vendor and the Aldo provide information based on this list which made it easy to choose them. I would reccomend finding out what amounts are due. For example, my venue gave a percentage of 50% balance of the amount owing is due 60 days prior to the wedding 90% of the balance of amount is due two days before the wedding and final balance is due on the day if the event. In my package, cake cutting fee has no charge, clean-up-set-up charge is inclusive, decorating is provided and they did allow me to hire my own DJ without any additional charges.

    Great list!

My venue includes; linens, food and drink, day of coordinator, chairs. I have to set-up/take down myself, and the cake cutting fee is rolled into the late-night food menu price.

I found the preferred list of vendors they gave very helpful, but they do not change us to use anyone else (thankfully!). I was only sad that they do not allow any outside food Smiley cry so my dream of a late night food truck is dashed... oh well!

Our venue Includes in our package:

    Flowers

    Linens,

    set up and tear down

    Food and Drink

    No Cake Fee!!!

Tax and grat are extra, but we were sure to check with them about that.

Our venue gave us a list of vendors they have worked with, but we were not limited to that list. We are having our Reception at Sassafraz Restaurant in Toronto, so of course no outside food other than cake is permitted. They have an on site coordinator who will meet with us to plan the menu and other details closer to the date. They are also quite flexable about letting us make adjustments which is nice.

The cake cutting fee has always made me a little crazy- one wedding charge I just cannot wrap my head around!
