What are the duties of a Mc?

Alyx, on July 31, 2022 at 15:22 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 9
Is anyone having Mc’s at their wedding?
what do they do ?

My grandma pushed me in asking my cousin and Aunty to be our MCs and I didn’t really want that I wanted the Dj to do it because he’s experienced and knows what to do.
Anyway to late to go back now but I feel the need to tell them their duties, whatever they are.. They haven’t asked me a single thing about the wedding or timeline.. nothing lol I’m a bit confused

My fiancee's brother is acting as MC for ours. He has some experience with this kind of thing and has done more than a few family weddings. A DJ doubling as an MC is an option where there's no one else willing to, but it's usually preferable to have a family member or friend take on the role.

Im in the same boat as Carine - no DJ only a MC, so we kinda needed this person. Our MC is one of the groomsmen who has MC'd several weddings at this point (main reason we asked him) so we are truthfully letting him take the reigns on this one for us. We are actually sitting down with him here soon to go over everything but its in line with what everyone else has mentioned in here.

In your situation, having them introduce you guys, introduce speeches, and those type of things would be the ideal task for them. Then you can let your DJ do the other stuff like basic reminders, ect.

My MC is my bestfriend's husband, he will be in charge of making sure everyone is seated at the proper time, make sure the music is on cue, then making sure everyone is ready for group picture, dealing with vendors questions, making sure they are seated for our entrances, telling guest that it's dinner time, first dance. An MC is there until the DJ starts and then does his job.

I am not having a DJ so I Have my MC do pretty much everything and sort of my day of coordinator at the same time.

Family weddings have had MCs within cousins or someone close that put the program together themselves. They didn't have to ask of much except for the performances, speeches, and immediate family introductions for the entrance. The groom himself put a slide of his fathers memries as a memorial tribute.

I'm going to counter this by saying that a family friend who is not a professional and doesn't have the appropriate stage presence can backfire heavily. We've all seen it before - that friend who thinks he's funnier than he actually is, the family member who solely rely on inside jokes and stories that half the audience aren't aware of or don't care about, or worst if the family/friend thinks they can get away with inappropriate comments because they're "close."

Not to say a family member/friend can't work but from my experience, it's far from a 100% better option than a professionally trained vendor.

Of course, the hired DJ can also be a dud (as ours was) but it's one thing to give pointers or criticize a hired vendor and another to do so to a family member doing it for free.

Personal opinion - it's much nicer having friends or family be the MCs than a DJ. It's way more personal and less game show ish. Ours did as Liberty said - ran over house rules, what the evening will look like, reminded guests to make sure servers could see their meal selection stickers on their escort cards, introduced us for the first dance, introduced themselves and said a bit about how they know us etc, introduced speeches, dances, cake cutting, ran our shoe game... etc. Etc. They were hilarious and perfect.

Our MC went over any info guests needed to know (where to put their garbage, no clinking for kisses, etc) before we entered then she introduced us for our grand entrance, announced when we were going to our first dance and she also let tables know when they could go up to the buffet
