Well, this sucks! Venues not returning deposits.

It appears The Doctor's House is pulling a similar tactic as Peter and Pauls: take the money for a premium wedding date but offers an off-season date for rescheduling.

And Eglinton Grand "is not in a financial position to offer any monetary refunds at this time" despite not being able to honour their contract. The owners of Eglinton Grand also run The Guild Inn.

I hope anyone who booked these venues are not going through this horrible experience.

I heard of a few couples here on the chats not getting their refunds back due to the COVID, having to pay more for next year or limited time of postponement. Its terrible how business is being run especially since couples are paying for the most of it the costs. The chances of couples' losing their deposit of the venue due to the venue owners/management is unfair for how much they worked to save up for it.

It should be posted or make aware somewhere that these venues and owners to not book unless the contracts are modified to have refunds under such circumstances occurring in these times.

Glad you managed to work things out. It sucks when we as clients have to resort to any argument to resolve a conflict.

The Eglinton Grand was out of our budget though we did consider the Guild Inn and went to their open house but weren't impressed (glad we dodged that bullet). Many recently engaged couples may be starting their venue search so this post is a warning in case they are browsing the forums. Thankfully our venue has been amazing so far.

Some family wanted us to use The Doctor's House because they really liked it but since a relative had a wedding there, we opted against it.

When we re-booked to our new October date they did try to charge us for a Saturday in Prime Season, for a Friday in October (Off-season) My FH & I argued this to no end, and we ended up getting the price it was originally.
We sent them the costing sheet they had sent us which shows different pricing for certain seasons, so I used their own information against them.

I suggest you put up a fight if in this situation, worst they can say is no, but at least you tried!

My Venue is a Peter & Pauls location.

I'm still in awe after reading these articles. It is very depressing to hear these stories and no one should have to go through this.

The Doctors House was one of the venues that we were going to look at and then we just decided it was too far for us. I'm happy that we made this decision now.

My work was going to have a Holiday Party at a Peter and Paul's venue one year and they had the exact same experience - terrible first meeting, poor attitude etc. We didn't even consider them due to what I have heard.

I hope these couples get their money back!

    Oh my goodness Smiley sad

I'm so sorry if they're your vendor...that's terrible to hear. I'm so glad we didnt book with Peter and Pauls... we called Universal, booked an app, were practically forced to wait 1.5 hrs, the "consultant" acted like he didn't care...he had an attitude of "well whether you book or not, this is going to get booked so we don't care".... They didn't even bother telling us that they had a minimum 200 guest limit for the room we wanted... even though I had told them the nr of guests we originally had in mind during the beginning when we were planning. All around I had a very negative impression of that one specific venue due to the actions of one person and that's kind of sad.

But I am very sad to hear this is happening to other couples Smiley sad I really hope they can find some middle ground to make it right.
