Well i doubled my ring budget.....

Rayanne, on June 26, 2021 at 20:41 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 35
So I think it is more my own fault but I doubled our budget for our rings once we got to the jewelers. I am 100% ok with going over since it is the one thing after everything is said and done that will be worn everyday after the wedding. I don't think I really budgeted the correct amount for our rings. I looked at department store rings and added some to it but since we are having them made it makes quite a bit of difference. We definitely decided to go with lab created diamonds to keep the cost a viable option.

Is there anything that you thought you had an idea what it would cost but you realized later you really where far off? We have other places where we have saved quite a bit so it'll even out luckily.

Oh yeah there was no chance I was paying that. I think I budgeted $250 and we will still likely go over that.

Yikes! I definitely wouldn't consider them. The sites I looked at for Saskatoon were $150-400, I know Ontario is usually more costly but I definitely wouldn't pay $1000 for 30 mins.

That was their starting price! So I assume your typical 30 minutes or so. I couldn't believe it!

What kind of ceremony is that for?

That seems absurd, I could maybe see it for a big mass but even that should be less.

I'm sure my ring would be expensive no matter where I go. I can't wear my engagement ring very often because of gloves and the possibility of scratching someone so I want my wedding band to have the sparkle that I can't have any other way. My wedding band is about 3/4 of a carat. (12 diamonds) I'm good with the price I was quoted. Definitely worth finding somewhere else to save....

We are looking for the quick ceremony 30 minutes max. Public speaking is not a favourite activity for FH or myself.

Sure, we shopped at Michael Hill. His ring is actually Titanium (his style). You can check Michael hill, they have 10k gold band for little under $300.00 😊

That's probably true. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg but I also want our ceremony to have a little bit of life and have ours guests not falling asleep lol. Hoping to find a happy medium!

I budgeted something insanely high for her dress alterations and my fiancee was like "Are you nuts? I could get a whole other dress for that amount!" Smiley xd

I think anything over $500 is getting into "celebrity" officiant territory. As in, you're hiring them for their reputation rather than just providing a basic legal service. Which is fine if someone wants an officiant who will engage and entertain the crowd, and they're probably worth every penny if they're in demand but I know that's not a need for many couples. Most officiants I've found doing this as a side gig who are performing the in-and-out 20-30 minute ceremony are around $400.

My ring the top ring is my engagement band. Well i doubled my ring budget..... 2
When he asked me what I wanted I said I wanted sparkle. He asked how much, I told the jeweler I want to blind people (lol). I am very excited to have them made. Things are finally getting done after all this time!

I budgeted the same for a dress for me or clothes for him. I figure fair is fair... I have a feelingnthat his tux rental will be more than my dress. I wanted a ever simple style and found one for a really decent price. I was lucky

Right? It's obviously a super important aspect of the day but I just can't swallow that amount! Hoping to find something closer to that $300 range but no luck so far!

Oh my! I couldn't imagine spending that much! But it also something you can't really have any control in the price. Where I live every officiant we inquired with was $300 and I thought that was ALOTTT

The officiant threw me off. Wedding wire has it set at $250 or something, and every one I've seen is at least double that! Some of them are over $1000!

We think alike. I overestimate when coming up with budgets on things I don't know about and get real giddy when the actual price is well below and nowhere close to the budgeted price lol.

But it's mind boggling hearing from people (mostly on other forums but a few here on WW as well) when they think a suit priced at $200 is expensive while they're easily spending five or ten times more on a single use dress.

Mind if I ask where you shopped? I'm also curious as to what kind of ring he's getting. Based on everything I've seen here in Ontario, a plain 10K gold band sized 4mm wide (literally the most plain and narrow little circle you can stick on a man's finger) starts at $350. And this is already a non-traditional jewellery route (as in, I'm getting this off Amazon or Costco lol).

I know some dudes who are getting some suped up gemstone rings for themselves. Though I'm curious as to what kind of design your FH is considering.

My FH ring is definitely not going to be $200 but I'm not even a little surprised by that. He has what I always think of as European taste when it comes to jewelry and clothes.

I saved a thousand on my dress so it definitely makes my ring still stay in our over all budget. I have a few places where we saved quite a bit in our budget as well so it will be fine. I totally agree that the rings are important that we get what we want.

We decided to keep rings out of our budget entirely for similar reasons to you going over budget. It’s something that will actually last after the wedding and you’ll wear every day so you want to be extremely happy with what you get! But we’re still reasonable people and didn’t spend an insane amount either lol.
I was originally hoping to spend $1000 to maybe $1500 max on a wedding dress including tax and alterations but once I did some research and went to stores I realized I had to increase my budget to more like $2500 to find anything I even remotely liked. I love my dress though so I’m happy I splurged a bit.

Same experience for us with the ring. I had budgeted $800 for my ring (as seen online) but when I went to the store, I fell in love with a $1,400 ring (after store discount lol) and we purchased it because my fiancé ring was $200 😊. In total, our ring was $400 more than originally planned but it was okay as we had room to accommodate that.

Since I have no idea what it costs to rent a tux (he doesn't want to buy) I budgeted I think $1500. I tried to keep things on the high end of budget so I could be happy if it was less. The rings have been my first real spot where things were way more than I at first thought. What I saved on my dress will offset my ring....

From our appointment today the FH's ring will be quite a bit more than mine lol. I know that of the two of us his tastes are definitely more extravagant than mine....

I remember my fiancee questioned me about the cost of the rings, thinking plain bands won't cost much but because I was the one shopping for the engagement ring, I know what the price of gold and other precious metals are.

On the topic of underestimating costs, I feel like a lot of brides seriously undervalue the cost of a suit for their groom when setting their budgets.
