Wedding socials

Vanessa, on August 16, 2017 at 18:31 Posted in Before the wedding 0 14

Hey everyone,

I am so excited that I got my social tickets in from Canada ticket printing today as well as wrist bands. Our social isn't until April 28th but I like to get things done. For décor we have helium balloons so far in the shape of hearts in black, purple and white.

Who is doing a wedding social? How is your planning coming along? What kind of prizes are you doing? What are you selling your tickets for? What kind of décor are you doing? I'd love to know what others are doing?

That's awesome. Thanks for the ideas. The only issue I believe we have is that we can't sell raffle tickets in Manitoba for more than $2.00 each. But if its a game they are playing I wondering if that's different......Definitely love love love the ideas.

Yes I will attach a picture for sure of both the outhouse and fishtank! My sister had an empty fishtank and they put 3 shot glasses in the bottom and then filled it with water. and added the aquarium stone/gravol for decore. It looked easy - but was actually hard. And my fiance borrowed the outhouse from one of his clients. There was 50 keys made to fit the lock but not unlock it - only one key actually unlocked the door to open. Yes my parents are also beef farmers and was a big hit! (who wouldn't want local beef to fill your freezer for only $10!) And yes the find the joker - you glue/tape the cards on bristol board face down - but only one joker is left in the cards and people purchase cards and write their name on it. and once they are all sold you flip them over to see who the winner is. This is usually a popular game - we had 2 boards.

    fishtankfishtank

outhouse - sorry only picture that it was in!outhouse - sorry only picture that it was in!

Oh we also had a win $100 game. You have a board made up into squares with fake serial numbers on each square - and people buy a square for $5 trying to guess what the serial # on the $100 bill is. Whoever guesses correctly wins $100 !! Hope this helps! Smiley heart

I am curious about this fish tank idea do you have a picture of it? I also like the idea of the beef draw. My parents are beef farmers so that wouldn't be all that hard lol. Did the venue have the outhouse with keys or did you do that? I do like that idea too. And find the joker was that just a deck of cards flipped over with peoples names written on them?

We just had our social/jack n jill the end of July. and it turned out amazing!! (thanks to the bridal party and their spouses!!)
Our tickets were $10 and there was a door prize with purchase of ticket (Blue Jay tix)
We had drop a dollar or toonie (can't remember which) into a fish tank and you won a couple raffle tickets or a free drink (depending on your venue rules)
They had a game where you purchased a key and if your key unlocked the lock you won a gift card - the lock was built into a tiny outhouse
    Find the Joker - $2/ticket or 3 for $5
Raffle table - I had prizes donated from local businesses (oil change, giftcards to local restaurants etc), basket of booze, hair supplies, wine baskets, lottery basket, my fiance also built a wooden cooler stand and we filled it with beach stuff (towels, sunscreen, pool/lake floaties etc), fishing basket, home depot/gas/lcbo cards etc. I can't remember cost for tickets but it was $10/arms length.
Pie in the face - have jars out and people throw in change - whoever has the most or least gets the pie in the face.
We also had a beef draw to win 1/4 beef - $10/ticket. That was a huge success and anyone could purchase a ticket and didn't have to be at the event to win!
Decore was minimal - some photos of us and then some balloons - they also used streamers and table clothes from the dollar store.
We were able to invite everyone including children until 10pm - then children had to leave the venue - they weren't too strict but most kids were heading home to bed by that time anyways!
We had ours at a local bar where they donated $1/drink & $0.50/beer back to us. They also gave our deposit back once the bar reached a certain $ amt.

Our social is open to everyone including children as we have my daughter. Tickets are $10.00. Our theme is black, purple and white as those are our wedding colours. So far we have balloons in the shape of hearts that will be filled with helium. We will have a tickets available for a silent auction, 50/50, draw for alcohol, grand prizes as well, possibly a jail that people can put people in and take people out for a minimal fee. There will be a dj as well and a bar that people can purchase tickets. We have already secured our venue and have our tickets printed. We printed social tickets for those who will be attending and we also have support tickets for those who would like to just support us as well. We are thinking about having a draw specifically for those for support tickets or letting them come and enter for the draws as well. Definitely lots to consider. A social is a Manitoba tradition and helps the bride and groom with the costs of the wedding. Prizes are still yet to be determined.

I think it's a Stag and Doe, or a Jack and Jill. We are doing a Stag and Doe, it helps the couple with the cost of the wedding, or Honeymoon, sometimes even the down payment on a house. We are doing it to help with the wedding cost. Both of my parents and a brother have died, and this wi'll help with some of the wedding costs since we are doing it on our own.

Is your wedding social a jack and jill or stag and doe? Our wedding social was just an event for people to get together, socialize and meet before the wedding. There were no prizes or tickets.
