Wedding Playlist Guide/checklist

Lisa, on May 28, 2021 at 15:56 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 20

Who has a music checklist they're using to write down must-have and do-not-play songs they want to share? Smiley laugh

For all aspects of the wedding, from walking down the aisle to exiting the reception!

    Ohhhh okay, makes sense. Hahaha.

You’re most likely able to Google Wedding Playlist Checklist and find some.
I saw a few that I’m using and trying to follow through.

There is post in here called: “The Ultimate Wedding Songs List You Need to Choose From” from November 2020.

Kind of like what Hank suggested. I like templates and such, so I was hoping someone had already discovered a good one online they could share.

I see a lot of blog posts and such, but I was hoping there'd just be like a free print-out/digital form I could just fill in LOL

Not to worry - I've got plenty of time to go through all the hoops.

    Ohhhhhh okay!
Are you looking on a particular place? Like on Apple Music or Spotify? Or just like the list Hank sent on what essential moments music are required?

I was actually looking more for a checklist/guide of essential moments where a song choice is recommended, not for song recommendations. Smiley smile

Making a list of songs from genres and artists will help to put them into different ways to choose what you feel they fit as to the aisle walk, once married, first dance, etc. This way you can eliminate songs to make the final choices for each one and for the reception put them into a playlist.

They don't need to be unpopular songs, per se. I just don't want songs that a gazillion people used as their main wedding music. A few off the top of my head that I think would be great choices are:

A Groovy Kind of Love - Phil Collins

    Angel of Mine - Monica

I know this song was originally for the Olympics but I feel like it would make a great slow dance song for a couple.

If you're struggling to come up with songs, I would visit your favourite artists and go through songs that aren't released singles. There's often a lot of great gems there that weren't chosen for the lack of commercial appeal but probably sounds more to your sensibilities.

If 3 of my potential guests make the invite list and attend, this would get them going 100% LOL!

    Exactly Anne-Marie.
It is very difficult to find those songs. Since every time you search for wedding songs, those are popping up again. This is why I’m on the verge of Michael Bolton songs, since I don’t see them in the top 100 of wedding songs. Hahaha. How’s your wedding playlist coming along?

I agree, Hank! These songs are very popular and I think it’s nice to have new, uncommon songs to make the day more special and personal! The hard part is finding all the non traditional/unpopular songs for each need.

    Hello Lisa,

    Congratulations 🥳

My fiancé and I are currently creating songs for our wedding.

So far, we only have a few options and it seems like our main songs are of Michael Bolton. Hahaha

🚶🏾‍♀️ Walking down aisle: A Love so Beautiful

👰🏾🤵🏾Bride + Groom Dance: Michael Bolton - In the Arms of Love // Never Get Enough of your Love // To Love Somebody // When a Man Loves a Woman // Time, Love and Tenderness

🕺🏾💃🏾Father Daughter dance: Michael Bolton - Fathers & Daughters

🎂 Cutting of cake: Michael Bolton: Now That I Found You

    - Reception/Dance floor jams: mixture of Soca, Old R&B, Dancehall, Oldies

Background music while guests enter the church/ceremony space (I always find dead air to be weird)
Bridal Party walking down the aisle
Groom walking down aisle (if he is)

    Bride walking down the aisle

Unity ceremony (if you have one)

    Wedding certificate signing

    Recession walk out the ceremony

Grand entrances for bridal party, parents, wedding couple at reception

First dance and any additional dances

    Cake cutting

Reception moments like bouquet toss and garter retrieval if you're doing those

Grand exit (if you're doing one)

Thinking Out Loud has been our song since we started dating, so will definitely be our First Dance song.
But I’m looking for a checklist or guide of all the essential moments that a song selection would be necessary.

For our ceremony, we're trying to play songs that aren't in literally every other wedding in existence from the past few years. A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, Perfect/Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis or any other cover version, Pachebel's Canon, I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas, Happy by Pharrell Williams, and Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars. They're fine songs and it's totally fine if otters want to use those songs, but we would rather have something unique. Literally every wedding I've attended incorporated those songs into their ceremony/entrances.
