Wedding planner book

Élisabeth, on March 4, 2020 at 19:20 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 19
Hi guys!

I started planning our wedding and i don’t plan to hire a wedding planner. However i’m worried about missing something. I’m thinking about buying a wedding planner book. Did some of you use that? Was it worth it?

Wedding planner can be found on the internet. I had found a few that had a different layout depending on what fitted you best to work with your choice. It can go by months or TO DO category wise. They are also available download version too.

I forgot to mention that google docs have wedding spreadsheets you can download to your drive as well!

I bought one and I don't know it was that useful.... probably could have googled some stuff but I guess it was a good starting point. Personally I found we are traditional for some things and not for others, so whatever list you find you will most likely feel like many items do not apply to you or that you may need to add some. I made my own binder and its my baby! I have everything categorized by contracts and divided by ceremony and reception and that works for me (also a lot of documents in it was shared with us by our coordinators).

I'm sure you could finds the tips online on The Knot's website - they break up different tips for each category in the binder.

Im not hiring a planner either... my friend gave me this book yesterday: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07XLQD1ZV/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_fv-yEb9MJ6WQ7 . I haven't had a chance to look through it yet but it seems very very thorough. It's also very aesthetically pleasing Smiley smile She put a lot of work into picking the perfect one so I'm confident it will have all that I need!

We use both WW and a planning book. When it comes to planners: the Knot is amazing for when you’re starting from scratch with pointers for vendors, Kate Spade’s is #goals for aesthetics, and Fringe Studio’s meets in the middle. You can get custom ones online but for store bought, these are pretty good.

I purchased a planner which is actually quite useful:

Alot of the information I keep in the planner I have been adding to all of my wedding planning spreadsheets. Helps keep me on track to actually write things down and it also looks cute as a coffee table book. It also has a slot at the back to keep business cards and other info

I used the planning tools on WW and didn't miss a thing. They are very helpful and since you already have an account it's easy!

One of my bridesmaid purchased the Wedding Planner Binder from The Knot when I got engaged because she used it at her wedding and loved it. Granted there are some things in there that don't really apply to our wedding, it has helped keep me organized as well as some really useful tips. I don't know if I love it as much as she did, as I use other methods to keeping things organized but overall its a helpful tool and I appreciate the thought,

At first I looked into it - but I knew that I did most things online anyway so to write it all on paper would just be expecting too much from me. Instead I used the checklist here on WW and deleted and added different things to accomodate to my wedding needs. That and I made sure to make a wedding folder for my email inbox as well as subfolders for DJ's, Venues, Photographers, etc. to keep it all nice and clean. I mean, if you can find one second hand for cheap or one you can print off from online go for it, but I wouldn't spend the money on it.

I remember looking at a 200+ item to do list and my jaw hit the floor. As I got looking at it I was able to slash off a lot of stuff and I used it as a jumping off point to make my own list. In that way it definitely helped and I'm glad I never bought any planning guides.

It is such a good point! Too much stuff that doesn’t apply will probably stress me more than helping 😂

I set up an email and a spreadsheet early on. It's the only email I use for contacting vendors so I don't need to dig through a bunch of emails to find important dates or quotes.

On my spreadsheet I made a page for my estimated and actual budget including deposits paid and balances owing, important dates like payment deadlines or appointments, vendor contact info and quotes when we were shopping around, and our guest list with everyone's details and RSVP information. It's easy to tweak and does math for me 🥰
I found that most of the books or printables I found didn't fit the kind of wedding we're having (no meal, no wedding party). All the added stuff that didn't apply to us just frustrated me and added a lot of stress. That being said if you're having a traditional wedding a planner book could be very helpful for you. And you can find free printables online if you want to try the book before buying an expensive premade one.

I created my own book! I have a cute faux leather folio/file organizer that holds all of my vendor business card and info I collect at wedding shows, and then I am using an 8.5x11 leather bound notebook to write down lists, guest names, vendor quotes, etc while also "scrapbooking" pinterest ideas, wedding colour swatches, etc. I find it super helpful and will be fun to keep as a keepsake.
