We skipped a planner and a day of coordinator. We had plenty of friends and family who were willing to help out.

For our wedding we originally considered a planner but, as we sat down brainstorming our ideas we opted to do the planning ourselves. It’s been a fun ride. We use WW find our vendors. We spent time googling inspirations, budgeting, etc. Because we can both be a bit picky with certain things we didn’t want to drive a planner slightly crazy 🤣🤣. To keep us calm & focused on our special day we have decided we’ll go with a day of coordinator, mainly because I thinks it’s extremely important to just enjoy your day & watch the magic happen.

We didn't use a planner but we hired a day of coordinator. She didn't end up working our small covid ceremony but she'll be there for our future reception.

In my opinion, a planner is only necessary if you don't want to do the legwork in finding vendors or if you have a bare bones venue and you aren't sure how to go about bringing the rest of the event together. I've heard from others that planners can also be a good way to find vendors within your budget and some will even be able to get you deals because of their connections in the industry. However I know they can also be pricey themselves.

If you're having a fairly simple wedding, like planning things, and/or have an all-inclusive sort of venue, I don't think a planner is necessary and you can get away with just a coordinator.

I do think coordinators are worth the money if you can afford it, because you don't want to be worrying about organizing everything on the day of your wedding and you probably don't want to give that responsibility to family or friends either. I even sort of wished we kept our coordinator for our very small covid ceremony because things did go wrong at certain points of the day and I had to take care of sorting everything out. It all ended up being fine but I could have done without that stress on my wedding day haha!

My fiance and I have hired a day of coordinator where she'll be taking care of all of the set up of our decorations the way we want it for ceremony and reception. Our venue is setting up everything else. So tables, chairs, linens, plates, glasses. Our day of coordinator is also helping us with the timing of when we walk down the aisle and when we enter for our reception.

We didn’t hire a wedding planner but had a day of planner with our venue. The wedding planner is good for dealing with your vendors and organizing them with the venue (which some venues do anyways). Me and my wife were too controlling to leave the details to someone else and we were able to dedicate the time to it. Hank’s right that if you’re super busy, planning something gigantic or get overwhelmed easy, a wedding planner is a good idea if you can afford one. Otherwise it’s a good savings to do it yourself.

We don't have a planner but will have a day of coordinator. A planner is great if you have the funds and are the type to get overwhelmed easily. If you know exactly what you want, have the time to source everything out, and just need someone to run the machine in the day of, a coordinator will suffice.
