Wedding photographer dilemma

Anne, on August 9, 2019 at 01:30 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
Hello Brides. I’m having major second thoughts on a photographer that we put a $500 deposit down with. I think I panicked and jumped the gun. Her work is stunning but I have a gut feeling we should change our minds. Does anyone know how we should approach this? I don’t do well with confrontation. Should also add that no contract has been signed/received yet. There was also no mention of the deposit being non-refundable.

All deposits are non refundable, they are in place for this exact scenario, so as long as you are ok with not seeing that money again, then follow your gut. Since there is no contract, they don't need to give you half or any of it back, but who knows... you will have to ask. Photography was the absolute most important thing for me, so if you are having second thoughts then you should probably pay attention to them.

Deposoits are money paid to secure your day and service privided. Based on time frame you can get half back if you change your mind before halfway through the time. I did cancel and lost $100 and got back $100 from a $200 deposit.

It sucks that you lost the deposit for that amount. Its hard to take such a loss with decisions made when not satisfied.

If you are very very sure that you don't want to hire her then I suggest to end the relationship. Hopefully you get your deposit back. If not, chalk it up to experience, perhaps the lessons learned can be applied on hiring the other vendors Smiley smile

I had to do this. I also jumped the gun bc of a great price but at the end of the day I was not happy with her costumer service and I did not love my photos. I was very honest and open with her and told her i wasnt going to be bad mouthing her or posting awful things and she understood and was very apologetic and wished me the best. Dont be mean or condescending just be honest about how you feel. At the end of the day they also want to work with someone they like and are compatible with, they dont want to work with someone they dont equally feel comfortable with, even if you are paying i think its a two way street. So I ended the relationship, although I had signed and contract and my $500 deposit was lost. The fact that you dont have a contract might make it a bit easier to get the money back, again if you are nice and ask nicely and part ways in a friendly manner it should be oka! Good luck Smiley smile

I mean, if you are sure that you want to change your mind then I like to think that there are more good people in the world than bad and that they would try and keep your money - but it's never 100% that you will get your money back if you have either not signed a contract at all or have signed one with a no-refund clause.

Just make sure you know you don't want her because it would be super awkward trying to rehire her!!

Did something happen to make you feel like this? If you haven't signed a contract and no mention in any emails regarding it being non refundable you should be able to ask for it back.

If you haven’t signed a contract, I would just ask for the money back. Never give a deposit without first getting a signed contract. That can lead to a lot of issues down the road
