Wedding on Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend

Claire, on August 21, 2023 at 23:53 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5
My fiancé and I are planning a wedding in October of next year and are considering Oct 5 or 12 (Thanksgiving weekend). Both are Saturdays. No matter where we host we would have a lot of people travelling (guests evenly split between BC, AB, Ottawa, SW Ontario) and we are hosting in Quebec. If you were an attendee how annoyed would you be with a Thanksgiving wedding which would likely cause you to miss the holiday with family? Would you just not attend? Or would the extra time off make it easier to book a weekend off in a beautiful venue?

I personally find that holiday weddings underrated. They already have the time off, they will be with a larger family and they can celebrate thanksgiving next year.

It may be an inconvenience if it were a friends wedding, as I wouldn’t be able to partake in family traditions. Thanksgiving specifically, if we aren’t very close I may not attend. If it were a family member getting married, that would work great because I could hopefully see everyone there.

I would attend, having the extra day off helps with travel

Depending on who it was, for example, if it was a close friend, I would attend and make the exception if it were on the Thanksgiving weekend but to be honest, I personally enjoy this time with family as we have our own traditions for this weekend.

There are different ways of looking at it... it does give extra days off for traveling to a new place so you can make a little vacay out of it, that part is cool but it can also compromise time that people quite often (not always) share with close friends and family therefore I am personally not a fan of long weekend weddings and or having it on weekends that include a holiday.

Personally I would find this a great weekend for a wedding! Yes, thanksgiving is usually a family weekend, but you’re all coming together anyways, just to celebrate something even more special! Could be fun to play off if it and have a traditional thanksgiving dinner at your wedding, or decorate with the colours and the squash and pumpkins 😍

But to answer the question I personally would find this appealing because of the extra days off, I would be more likely to be able to attend, and the holiday timing wouldn’t bother me at all.
