Wedding now or postpone?

Alima, on March 29, 2017 at 21:51 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
Hi everyone! My fiancé and I have been together for 5 years. Im turning 31 this year and our wedding date is normally on the 9th of September. I find that its about tiimme we get married! Only thing is we put an offer on a house and its at the max of our budget. We can still technically get married but if anything goes wrong in our finances, itll be crazy... I am seriously thinking of postponing but Im so torn. He still wants to do it but Im scared. It feels like a risky and stressful time to do both but I feel like if we wait it might be pretty anti-climactic. Has anyone gone through the dilemma of postponing or not? If you have any thoughts or suggestions, it will be appreciated!

Our families are both very supportive, we've been lucky in that they just want us to be happy and not stressed on our wedding day

Unless you're going to lose any deposit money by postponing, I say go for it! An extra year will be a relief and there's a lot of little expenses that come with buying your first home. I would see how much you need and continue to save a little every month.

If you really love the house then go for it. The wedding can wait until you both are 100% secure on the budget. I'm thinking of changing mine to 2019. It depends what happens from here til this September. Take it easy and don't stress. You'll make the right decision for sure! Just listen to your heart and talk it over your loved one.

He wanted to wait 2 years to get married so we could save... I wanted to go to the courthouse the day after the proposal... In the end we decided to be engaged 9 months before the wedding... Since we are having a wedding and not eloping we redid our budget... We were able come up with the funds needed without compromising our future plans... He cut back on smoking and I gave up my morning coffee... We also dialed back on the wedding its self by cutting guests and doing alot of DIY... If we were in you're position I think I would have been able to convince him to elope.

My FavoriteHe and I originally planned for 2018 but postponed a year so that we have time to get our finances together. Having the extra time is a HUGE relief.
