Wedding Gift Registry Etiquette

Chris, on October 17, 2017 at 22:37 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7

When you receive a gift from your wedding registry sent to your home directly from the place you registered vs the wedding guest. What do you do?

I have contacted the department store trying to find out who sent it to me. As a bunch of gifts just arrived in a big cardboard box. I am not sure if they are from one person or multiple people.

I am waiting to hear back to find out who send me the gifts but should I wait until after the wedding to send a thank you (6-8 weeks) or once I do, do I sent a thank you card for the wedding gift in advance of the wedding?

I am not sure if they will give me a card at the wedding with the registry paper of what they bought or not, not sure how this works.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

Oh my goodness I never thought of that! I really hope that they have a list of who buys things off of my registry! Which store was this through?

Hi Kris, how was your wedding?? What did you decide to do in the end with these gifts? Did you get any thank you's sent out before the wedding, or are you facing doing all of them now?

I would send thank you cards as the gifts come in. That way, you're not left trying to figure out who sent what months after the gift is received.

I would send thank you nots right away, mostly so you aren't stuck with all of them to write after. The company usually includes in the box who each gift was from, hopefully they can help get that info to you soon!

Once you get the list of who sent what, if some are from people not attending, then definitely send them a thank you note for the gift. If the gifts are from people attending the wedding, then I would wait until after the wedding to send the thank you note.

We had things delivered to our home off our registry and there was a bill of sale with each item and at the very top it gave the delivery address (our home) and the billing address with a name. We kept all the papers with the appropriate gifts and will be sending thank you cards out shortly.

    Hi Kris,

Is your wedding soon? This will determine if you can wait until after the wedding to send a thank you. However, once you find out who sent you the gift you should send a thank you. Incase it was for a shower and never arrived on time, or its not a specific 'wedding gift'.

It may also be from a guest who cannot attend the wedding. To be safe I would send the thank you once you knonw who sent the gift.
