Wedding dress Tipping?

Carine, on August 22, 2022 at 08:26 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 21

So I haven't seen this brought up, if so I missed it. Went and found my dress this weekend and to my surprise when we went to pay there was a tip option? So both me and my S2BMIL didn't know what to tip, how to tip, there was 3 options. 5%, 8% and 10%. When asked what is the normal the girl didn't know how to answer and she was as embarrassed as we were, as we know how to tip a server, or hairdresser, vendor, but this was new to us. The girl was like I would prefer a good review but put what you feel is right. That is the thing we did not know what was right? We liked her so we tipped her 8% and left an amazing review. Has anyone else have this?

Exactly, in this case wedding dresses should be done by commission and not tip service. I mentioned that in my review.

I will tip the barista if they are super friendly and do a little extra, but I notices Wendy's and MacDonalds, can't even get a hello how are you, here's your order, thank you have a great day from them, it's can I get your order, here's the machine, closes window, next window hands bag and closes window, Wow and you figure you deserve $18 an hour and you can't even bother saying hello? so if they start putting a tip option that is a fat no.

I will tip the driver directly as some companies don't give the tip to them. If you have to force me to give a tip and you didn't go above and beyond your job description do you deserve a tip?

I think you were right to feel awkward, it's not usual and alot of places are adding this. I'm glad you were able to tip what you felt was right and by the sounds of things she really helped you find the dress you were looking for.

I generally don't tip when I go and grab a coffee or take out, it's part of their job to serve and I have worked in customer service for a really long time. If I order a delivery service or dine in then I always tip, its an additional service they provided.

I agree, I'm finding that it's becoming a thing lately, especially some places removed the 15% option and now starts at 18%-25%. Like sorry everything is going up in price but my wage hasn't budged because of it. After what we've all been through the past 2 and a half years we all need a break.

The day I have to tip at walmart I'm asking them for a raise since I got my own items, I bag my own stuff now. they should be paying me for my time I spend as a cashier.

100% I don’t understand it fully to be honest …. It’s your job you were hired to do … I don’t get tips at my
Job …. I just don’t feel like I would tip
Like Walmart or like save on foods or even lululemon? If that makes sense ….

I feel wedding dress stores should bring back commission if you are going to bring a tip option. Like she was great but it was her job to help me find a dress. Tip option forces you to give one or you feel and look like a horrible person for not doing it. I work in customer service and I get paid to help people out no tip expected as it's my job and that is what I get paid to do.

When I worked in a hotel as a concierge I would go above and beyond like last minute car bookings, last minute event tickets, last minute flights, running errands or prepping a room for an anniversary or special occasion for the hotel guest, yes that deserves a tip. But when a guest asked for directions I would not expect a tip as that was part of my daily customer service duties.

If you paid by credit card, make sure you call the store and ensure that the tip went to the girl helping you and not just money that further lined the profits made by the store.

She said it was new, few months.

She helped me so much she deserved it. I heard on the radio that most places in Ottawa are doing that now putting a tip option.

Thank you, very happy, I don't have many good pictures of the dress to post them here, still waiting on everyone to send me pictures.

Im wondering if her POS machine is defaulted to have a tip option. Ive been seeing more as an option when shopping, even at retail stores.

I don't recall seeing a tip option when I bought my dress.

(ps. congrats on finding your dresss!!!!!!)

I didn't think this was a thing, the girl said it was new to them and they feel awkward about it as well and they really don't know what it should be. I don't mind tipping but someone needs to start a manual as it seems like everywhere you go now there's a tipping option. I felt she deserved 8% so that's what we gave her.
