Wedding dress hem alteration

Mary, on March 15, 2019 at 15:47 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 8
Hi everyone, as I had my first wedding dress try, they told me it needs to be hem. How much did it cost you for your wedding dress hem? They are asking me 480 + tax which looks a bit high! Do I take it somewhere else if so where in GTA?

It really depends on a variety of factors like the number of layers your dress has, if it has lace applications that need to be taken off and sewn back in. Mine was a super simple ballgown with no lace, but it had about 7 layers of tulle that the seamstress needed to individually hem. Mine cost 300 and I went to an asian lady. Avoid the tailors at the malls, they usually have a steep shop monthly rent and charges more.

I would try other places that are reputable in your area. I know my friend paid around 800 when she went to the dress place. I found that to be high when I only had to pay $300 for all of my alterations. She did a hem, added a bustle and took in few places

That seems high to me... I'm paying 250 for all my alterations which includes hemming (lace scalloped edge), bustle, belt added, and sleeves altered.

My dress needs to be hemmed. It’s not lace or beaded but it has lots of layers. They also are taking in the bust slightly and adding a bustle. It’s costing me $700 from the store I bought the dress. If you go to a private seamstress they probably charge less.

That sounds like a lot for just a hem. My alterations could be as much as $800 (according to where I bought my dress), but my dress is running late, so I don’t really have a choice.

It does depend on the dress: if there's lace/lots of layers on the bottom, it'll take more time/cost more to get it hemmed. If the bottom of the dress has fewer layers/simple fabric, it would cost less.

$480 does seem a little steep, I would shop around if you have time and see if somewhere else will hem for cheaper.

That depends on the dress, honestly - Is it a lot of layers in a ballgown? Is there intricate lace or beading on the hem? If so, they need to remove the lace/beading, hem it, then reapply it.

480$ seems high just for hemming, but without more details it's hard to say.

Is it the seamstress from the store where you bought your dress? If so, I suggest checking elsewhere. I am being charged $500 to have a corset lace up back put in place of a zipper, sides taken in, cap sleeves made smaller plus the bottom heamed. I looked for recommendations for a local person that did a good job on wedding dresses for a fair price. Selected one of the three most popular recommended. I remember three years ago when I was a bridesmaid having not much more then the bottom of my dress heamed and I went through t
