Wedding Dress Decision

Rachel, on June 29, 2018 at 01:17 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 8
So I have a choice to make. I'm wondering if I should used my mom's wedding dress and get it altered. My sister is the same size as my mom was when she got married but since I'm getting married first my mom gave it to me. I am debating saving the drest for her and altering it to her style to give it to her as a wedding present for when she meets the right guy. I would love to know if this is a good idea. Thank you Smiley smile

I think that's a very special gift. So thoughtful and sentimental. I would suggest to do that because that would be so special depending on if your sister is sentimental or not.

Definitely find out if your sister wants the dress, if not, you should get to wear it because you're important too lol. Whatever gets done with the dress, it sounds like it will be important and lovely.

Has your sister mentioned she wants to wear the dress? I would pull out the old photos with her and ask he opinion of it. And just be honest that you want to know if she would like the dress or not. Especially if you wouldn't wear it as is I would talk with your sister before cutting or altering the dress (even if you think you know what she likes).

I would say to ask your sister - if you want to wear it and she ends up not wanting to at all then it would be a missed opportunity for you. Nobody likes a surprise (wearing the mom's dress) forced on them (if you pass it up and expect your sister to wear it).

That sounds like such a great idea! I've been trying to think of a way to incorporate my mom's wedding dress into my own!

Oooh I'd love to see it, the 80's were such a year for fashion! Maybe talk to your sister? And just bring up your mom's dress, maybe show a few photos and see if it peaks her interest? If she loves surprises id say go for it! But if she doesn't she may not appreciate all your work on the dress because she may already have a dress in mind? I guess it depends on the type of person she is Smiley smile

I don't actually know if my sister has ever seen or been interested in the dress so it would be even more of a surprise. She lives out of province so it might be even more special on her big day. The dress is from the 80s so I've taken off the puffed sleeves and embroidered flowers so I might put some flowers on the dress I end up getting Smiley smile

Honestly if your sister loves the dress, and it's her dream to wear it when she decides to get married I would save it for her! My mother also gave me her dress, but my sister wanted it for her day (whenever that may be), so instead of wearing it, I'm having a seamstres cut a small sliver from the train and creating a garter from the material! That way I'll still be "wearing her dress"
