Wedding Dress and Weight Loss

Marcy, on January 27, 2020 at 14:10 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 8

Hi Ladies! A few months ago, I found a gorgeous dress that I immediately fell in love with. I ordered it and expect it to arrive in a couple of weeks. The trouble is....since ordering it, I've lost about 15 pounds. I haven't intentionally been trying to lose weight, just making a conscious effort to try and eat right and exercise more frequently. I'm sure my dress will be too big, but I'm just wondering if others have had this situation, and had any luck getting your dress altered? Is 15 lbs too much to alter a dress? Should I just be looking for a new dress? Or is it still within the working range to alter? I have no idea!! I would really value any input you can offer.

Altering the dress before the weight loss is a major decision for the bridal shop to do for fitting. Its great to hear you have lost weight since the last dress fitting. It may possible to get another dress if the one you try on will be bigger on you. The bridal shop can let you know what can happen based on your choice.

I've heard that most dresses can be taken in about 3-4 sizes without losing the shape and essence of the dress.
You should be fine, a talented seamstress can take it in and make it fit you like a glove. I would wait until a few months before the wedding in case you lose more weight since you don't want to re-alter it a second time.

I think youll be fine. youve probably lost weight all over your body and not all of it in one specific area. take the dress to an alterations place and just get it sized wont cost much

I think this is pretty common for brides lol but I think yours will be no problem at all. 15 lbs is about 1 size difference and I feel like I read somewhere that most dresses can be taken in up to a 4 size difference without effecting too much and letting it out by up to 2 sizes. So I think you'll be fine! But I'd definitely be talking to someone about it sooner rather than later just to make sure!

I would say that depends on the style of your dress and where you lose the weight. I would think that 15 lbs would be workable though for most dresses. My aunt had to get her dress taken in like 3 times because she kept losing weight, more to do with the stress of the wedding more than anything. Her dress had a lot of details in it too, but it still looked gorgeous after all the taking in. I'll have to get mine taken in too since I've lost about 40 lbs since I first bought it (which I did not think would happen!) so I'll be taking it in to see what the seamstress says in a couple weeks *fingers crossed*
