Wedding Dress Alterations

Rachel, on June 22, 2018 at 04:04 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 7
HI guys, I'm just wondering if anyone here has tried doing they're own alterations. I want to do it myself I just don't know if it will be too big a task to take on.

I wouldn't suggest it. Go with a professional. I know it can be pricey but it will be worth it. It also depends on your dress. If there aren't many layers and it's a simple dress than maybe.

Definitely depends on your skill level and the intricacy of your dress... Wedding dresses are much different than taking in your regular clothes, or even just basic sewing...

If you have appliques, beading, lace, corset, multiple layers, etc... I would really go with a professional.

My cousin wore a single layer sheath dress... so something like that would be more manageable... but honestly, it's one of those things that you would really regret it if you made a mistake... whereas if you're paying for the alterations, they would correct it until it's right.

I agree if you know what your doing and have done work on dresses and worked with the material before than you should know if you can do it. I would be way too nervous of messing something up to trust myself with my dress.

If you know you have the skill then go for it but otherwise I would leave it to the pros.

It depends on how good of a seamstress you are - I know I took Home Economics in Grade 8, and was pretty good at making a gym bag and a pair of pj pants, but I wouldn't want to do anything bigger than a couple loose threads or replacing a couple buttons on the dress. Good luck if you do end up doing it!
