Wedding drapery

Meaghan, on August 19, 2022 at 05:26 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8
Hi everyone! I found my dream venue that requires minimal decor but it is quite pricey. I wanted to avoid getting married at a banquet hall (no shade- just not the vibe I wanted) but due my guest list it is one of my only options while keeping within my budget). I could go for the dreamy more expensive venue that doesn’t require much decor or a more affordable banquet hall that requires a lot of decor. I’m trying to get a sense of what final numbers could look like if we spruced up the hall (wedding is in GTA).. Can anyone give me an idea of how much wall drapery would cost (to cover windows/to have a head table backdrop) or how much is normal for silk flowers.? Would so appreciate it.

    Meaghan,

All the decor and drapery your looking for can be inquired by a rental company to do the work for you and to see how much they charge and the length of the material. Facebook market is a great place if your considering to buy it yourself and to store it at home.

When choosing the backdrop set up, we did find it easy to do it ourselves as it took five minutes in whole and simple decor we rented too along with money box. I wouldn't imagine to have the space at home to be big enough to put in a box for storage. The cost in whole was less than $500 for everything for a venue that had windows all along the side for the view to enjoy.

For me, what it would come down to is how much I want to take on. Going with the "dreamy" venue, there would be less on your plate to decorate, as the place will already look how you want it, whereas, going with the "inexpensive" venue, you are adding the task of either hiring a decor vendor, or DIYing, which could add stress.

While I can't give examples for pricing, might be best to join a local wedding FB group and ask fellow brides. But with regards to silk flowers, I think it could really depend on what you want, and how much you need. DIY would be alot more inexpensive then hiring someone to make them, and DIY is fairly simple as well (did it for my besties wedding and plan on doing it for mine as well)

I get this big time. The hall is absolutely the cheaper way to go for me, but all the extra work is stressful just thinking about it. With giving ourselves over 2 years when we started looking (under 2 now, yay!) it's given is plenty of time to look at other venues around us. I was starting to feel defeated, but I think we found one we both love.
Don't settle, if you don't have to!!!!

I vote dreamy venue! I love when a venue is so beautiful it requires little to nothing for decoration, makes your life A LOT easier and it sounds like it will really wow your guests when they walk in which always starts the day off beautifully. And I agree, it sounds like it would be a lot of work essentially trying to "cover up" parts of the banquet hall and al though it can be done very nicely with drapery I find it will always have that "hall" feel to it no matter what.

Oh I didn’t even think of that- thank you so much. I think I might go for it but also don’t want to make ab irresponsible financial decision and end up being over budget at the end with all the costs that I’m sure add up when the date gets closer. But can’t stop thinking about it! So hard to decide.

Just an FYI, a lot of venues won't allow you to DIY decor. They require licensed or insured professionals to do anything with their walls and ceilings for liability sake. Drapes are expensive, especially if your venue has high ceilings and wide walls.

Honestly, if your dreamy but expensive venue is within your budget, I would go for it just to avoid the stress of having to do everything yourself. In addition to setup, you have to tear all of it down and no one wants to be climbing up and down any ladders after a wedding reception nor do they want to schlep potential car loads worth of stuff home.

Hi Meaghan, Welcome to wedding wire and congratulations on your big day.

I would highly recommend shopping on facebook marketplace, brides are always selling their decors. Also drapes you can find good deals at ikea cost less than rentals. You can find a lot of great options online. Back drops on Amazon you would be surprised what you could find.

If you are okay with DIY's I would start from there you can save so much money.
