Wedding Decor Reasonably Priced?

Heidi, on July 4, 2020 at 09:45 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 8

Hi all,

i recently met with a wedding planner to discuss day of coordination and decor. Overall she is charging about $3200 plus HST for decor. This includes the following and I am wondering if this is reasonable:

(Large) Backdrop Package - $1400 (Includes floating candles and sequin rose gold linens for head table, receiving and cake table)

Runners (Anticipating 9 round tables)

Sequin Rose Gold Runners for Guest Tables - $15 x 9 = $135

Burgundy Runners for Guest Tables - $15 x 9 = $135

Rose Gold Guest Book - $50

Card Box - $40

10-12 inch, Round Wood – 9 Pieces x $14 = $126

Table Number Set – Let’s say $6 each (All depends on choice) x 9 = $54

Rose Gold Candles – Guest Tables - $150 total, unlimited

Set Up and Tear down : $250

Day of Coordination - $850

= $3190 + HST

Also is set up and tear down fee customary charge?

thank you!!

I actually booked floral with a different vendor and its coming to about $2000 for floral (taxes in). This includes 12 centerpieces (just floral, since i'm providing the lanterns to put flowers in), floral garland for head table, flower girl basket or bouquet as well as the bridal party floral and a ceremony backdrop with floral.

Yes and no. Depends if they're rentals but a lot of the stuff Heidi has listed are perishables (candles, guest book, the backdrop if they're fresh flowers).

The price quoted seems reasonable though some items are a bit marked up and personally I paid less for a decorator I had originally planned to have and then drop since it was a small wedding.

Some of the items can be bought on market place second hand or amazon as lot (large quantity). You feel good with what your getting and happy with the price, don't stop yourself from proceeding if you do get some of the things at a better lower price.

It’s actually pretty decent. I had someone quote me $10 000 for flowers/vases...

Luckily I had been to another friends wedding and they recommended someone for me (whose work I had actually seen) and it was like $6000. I’d say for what you’re getting it’s pretty good

My decor and floral setup/tear down is going to cost $600 total so that sounds pretty good! However, the card box you can probably get cheaper but yeah overall that sounds reasonable.

That's actually pretty reasonable, considering the coordination charge is in there as well. Typical coordinators in GTA charge $1500-$2000 just for the day/month of coordination service. And decorators who were vending at every wedding open house I've attended in the GTA charged $1500+ for the head table setup you discussed. You can probably tweak the costs a tiny bit based on how you do the centerpieces and other little things but it won't be a huge difference since the event coordinator and head table package is your biggest cost.

Yes, you do normally pay extra for setup and take down as that's labour, which is on top of material charge.

Btw, you can knock $135 off your total since you calculated for 18 tables, not 9.

Hi there! I’d suggest if this fits in your budget then great! personally, I would have fallen over with some of those prices!! going through the items you have here, I’m certain that most if not all of these items are marked up. That being said, you can find similar items on bridal re-sell groups on Facebook or other social media platforms. I am going through decor right now as well and for example I spent $300.00 for 26 (set of 3) vases with candles (not using the candles so they are kind of a perk!) which will take care of my centrepieces for all of my tables (14 tables) and head table. I bought these second hand. I still will get some tea lights and other small ish stuff, also hoping for 2nd hand with a total spend around $500. I would ask yourself if it’s important that these items are new or not. Good luck!
