I was always told to work backwards from the time you leave at the very end of the day. You can contact your venue for how long things typically take as they would have experienced it a couple times unlike us. They should know roughly how long it takes to get x# of guests to their seats and fed, and how long dinner would take. Your officiant would have an idea on ceremony once you've worked through it once with them. And the photographers are probably your biggest asset for help if they are willing and have the time.

*Don't forget it takes time to get from point A to B and account for traffic.

    This is mine:

930am - me and bridal party arrive at the venue to bridal quite for breakfast, hair and make up.

2-230pm - family and fiance/party show up at venue.

    3pm - ceremony starts

330pm - cocktails and snacks for guests - private pictures with photographer

445pm - everyone is seated for champage toast and to order dinner (our menu has options and each guest orders off a menu card)

    515ish - dinner served

6pm - dessert/wedding cake and any speeches that may happen (none are planned)

    630-645pm - couple's first dance

    reception begins

730pm - late night menu comes out and photo booth outside opens.

I asked the vendors when they were all arriving and what they would do when they arrived and that helped to shape the rest of our day. We realized that their plans for capturing the day really helped plan when/what we did throughout the getting ready process so for sure get all that info and fill in the timeline a bit more.
